Hey guys... Don't know if this common but if I leave my cap off my rda (stillare) with juice on the cotton and hold the button for five or so seconds it will burst into flames...

Freaked me out when I saw this... I rather not swallow a mouth full of flame... Scares me to death honestly.

Why does this happen? And my stillare has a big airhole... So breathing in while it catches fire means I could be in danger?

thats a pretty warm coil.... as you inhale, the air going into the atty keeps things cool enuf to a point to keep it from igniting. But just letting it sit there with the button held for several seconds allow the heat to build up to a point of combustion ( no airflow, no cooling).... change your wick and keep the air moving :)

what you did is what is known as dry burning... holding the button until it burns. Normally its done without the wick in place to burn off the gunk that collects on the coil after time. once the gunk burns and becomes "carbony" it can be brushed away revealing a mostly clean coil, which can now be rewicked and vaped on again.

Juice will flame past a certain temp, that part is normal. When SS Mesh was the rage many would roll the mesh, saturate it with juice and make it flame with a lighter to build up oxidation, the flame will go out when the juice burns up.

Under normal vaping conditions shouldn't happen, you're pulling air directly over the coil when vaping which cools it down and aside from that I don't know many that take a > 5 sec drag on a sub ohm build. That's one of the points of sub ohm, good response time, high heat, lots of vapor in a quick hit.
