I am really enjoying the flavor my RDAs give me as well as the mass clouds. However, the drawback is having to add juice all the time. I have been seeing a lot of Squonk mods with BF RDAs lately. Is it worth the investment to purchase a Squonk setup, or is it overrated? It looks like an easy concept - pretty much an attached tank that you squeeze to force juice to your coil through the bottom of the RDA. What do you all think?

Don’t think it’s overrated. A large portion of this community swear by it. I haven’t tried it nor have I tried an rda. If I use an rda it will be atop a sqounker because I won’t constantly drip. I used to do something similar with the cartomizers of ole and when the first protank came out I couldn’t drop the carts fast enough. If you’re interested in sqounking then go for it. It’s a proven concept that works well. I have no idea why I haven’t made the leap. It seems like a great way to get superior flavor with little hassle. Now I must stop or I’ll be looking for a new bf mod and an rda and I’m just not ready. I don’t like change

Worth it for sure. I ruined me, and now I only run my squonk box mods I print for myself, and my USModz Stinger BF.

Squonking is quite convenient. I personally hate dripping, but love RDAs so it let's me run a setup that I really enjoy without having to compromise on anything.

There’s another way to vape?

If you're into RDAs, squonking is absolutely worth it. It has all the advantages of dripping without its drawbacks.

Couldn’t agree more :thumb:

I'm extremely addicted to squonking. I don't think the the nicotine has anything to do with it. :D

Many folks may think it's weird I prefer to squonk, because using an RDA or squonk setup is mostly for flavor chasers, and I vape primarily unflavored. Don't think I'm the only one here who vapes unflavored and squonks though.

I got into it primarily because I got sick of tanks leaking (even when built correctly), condensation on mods from bottom airflow tanks, just the potential mess with taking an RTA or even a tank with drop in coils out of the house. Also, many RTAs don't have the greatest juice capacity.

RDAs are much easier to wick and you don't have to spend a lot of time with wicking to ensure it doesn't leak like you do with an RTA. As long as I don't oversquonk and put it in my pocket without vaping, my squonkers have never dribbled in my shorts. :p

Most squonk bottles are capable of holding 7ml of juice, even 5ml is a nice amount to be able to fill my bottle on the way out the door, and not worry about having to refill when I'm out and about.

I've only been squonking a few months now, but the only time I've used a non-squonking mod in that time is when I go to bed. Night time, I take a mod with an RDTA to bed with me since I vape at night, even when I wake up for a minute or two. When I'm really out of it and not awake, I tend to vape without squonking and vape my cotton. Also, I don't have to worry about oversquonking, not vaping the juice, and falling back asleep with the RDA leaking on my bed.

In all honesty, my non-squonk equipment really just sits now. I've got a bunch of new (non-squonk) equipment never opened, that's I'm not sure I will ever use. A lot of it, lol. I was planning on keeping most of it in the FDA vape closet, but I may sell some of it off. Squonking has ruined 'traditional' vaping for me. Well maybe not ruined, but squonking has spoiled me. My non-squonk stuff will get used here/there, but it's no longer the focus of my vape experience.

If you get an RDA that is geared toward squonking, it doesn't take long to get used to it, not oversquonking, and the like. I've also found it easy to know when I need to squonk. Even with unflavored juice, it's easy to tell it's time to give the ole bottle a squeeze.

I'll probably end up donating some of my non-squonk stuff to a brother who's trying to quit smoking. The rest will be in the FDA vape closet. Heck, my main squonk setups all use 2x700 batteries, so I'm barely even using 18650's at this point. I do have a few that use them, but I've got way more batteries than I need now since I've refocused on different cells.

It has COMPLETELY changed the way I vape, and what gear I'm interested in. It's been a deep rabbit hole for me. With more and more squonk gear becoming popular, I fear that will only get worse, lol.

I just got my Pulse 80w this week, and I am completley in love running it with the Recurve. I have backups for the Pulse on the way as we speak. I'm getting an absolutely incredible vape with it and the Recurve, no mess, great battery life, and a very light pocketable device. The squonk bottles that come with the new Pulse, are probably the easiest bottles I've used to fill and not make a mess.

To you original point, I would personally never drip and use an RDA since I vape unflavored juice. No need to flavor chase. But even considering that, I still prefer squonking over an RTA or the like these days. Lot of new squonk gear coming out too. Good times.

You vape in your sleep? Man, you've got a serious problem there:shock:

Squonking is very nice, if you need that RDA-fix, but RTAs still have a lot going for them imo. Flavor is highly dependent on the tank, build, etc. Some of my RTAs have far better flavor, than some of my RDAs. Filling an RTA is still a lot easier as well, because you don't have to disassemble the whole setup. Leaking is a non-issue for me too, because I tend to throw RTAs out of rotation, that have a tendency to do so. So for prolonged trips, RTAs are still much more convenient to me.

I think it would be well worth it to have a squonk setup in your collections.

I have two. (a Reo and a V-Mod) I no long use either one as they just aren't my preferred way to vape. I think it had more to do with the specific mods than the principle, so I would never rule out trying a different BF setup if I found the right one.

V-Mod XL

The above V-Mod didn't last long. It was a cheap, flimsy piece of crap. I only bought it as my first bottom feeder to try squonking for the first time. I remember using it almost exclusively for 2 - 3 months. I replaced the stock drip tip with a custom designed pyrex drip tip. You couldn't put a BF RDA on this mod; it used propietary BF cartomizers only available from the manufacturer.

A great friend here on ECF gifted me one of his Reo's. The mod was uncomfortable for me to hold and the fire button was difficult for me to press without some discomfort. I should add that I have early degenerative arthritis in my hands and fingers.

Just a stock photo of a Reo Grand. I don't have a pic of my Reo.

I don't squonk yet, I'm pretty happy with my vape gear and not ready to fall in love with something new (yet). I will say, there seem to be some pretty nice benefits to squonking, and I'm sure I will, someday. The nice thing is that more squonkers (and more regulated squonkers) are coming on the market, some say this will be the "year of the squonker" and I hope so. :)

If you enjoy RDAs, I'm fairly sure you will enjoy squonking. :)

My problems with dripping were many. #1, dripping. Even with a dripper bottle it takes too many hands to be practical for on the go. Squonking fixed that.
#2, dry hits. TC squonking fixed that. I'm not sure what's still out there for TC but it is possible.
#3, leaking in your pocket. Squonking didn't fix that. I've had a RDA that could've fixed it temporarily but even it eventually leaked and it wasn't a bottom feed. Most of what I see aren't something you can throw into a pocket and not get leaks. So I can't squonk on the go but at least I can get the flavor from dripping at home and while I work.

I vape in my sleep. Not as bad as I smoked in my sleep but I do often have to search for the mod hidden in the blankets. I'm not sure if it's better or worse since I got my neck fused because before when I'd wake up the pain wouldn't stop until I got up, now I fall back asleep but I don't get woken up as often.
Vaping in my sleep is more something to do when I get woke up. Plus I think nicotine helps me sleep.
Smoking in my sleep was about waking up to smoke. Every time I switched that was obvious.

For me, smoking in my sleep almost proved to be fatal. I woke up to 50% of the inside of my mattress in flames, smoke alarms going off and everything. Luckily I was able to get my wife and 6 children up and out. Was able to extinguish the fire. This was one of the major factors in my choice to switch to vaping. Haven't heard of anyone ever burning down their home by vaping in bed!

Same here, many times. Smoked out the building at college, that was the worst one. Doused the mattress and dragged it over to the building with a dumpster. I have many holes and burns on my waterbed (hard to set that mattress on fire) sheets, pad and blankets to remind me not to smoke every time I wash them.

Of course its worth at least to try, you lose nothing until you have squonk pin with your rda, i have 2 squonk mods, one is mechanical magic box from hcigar, second one is pulse bf80w from vandyvape, love second mode for its lightness and good working chip. When first time heard about bottom feeders thought they are useless, but man how wrong was i. sometimes i don't want to carry bottle of juice with me, cuz get tired of dripping all the time. Squonking is really convenient. So, if you're hesitating-just try it!

My 1st Mech mod is being delivered on Thursday, so I will have that to keep me busy for a while. But I think my next purchase is going to be a Squonk box mod. Any suggestions on a good starter kit that won't hurt my wallet too much?
Not overrated, i used one last winter (gbox200) best purchase i made since i stopped smoking last year, imo it wicked better than a tank and i had a dripper worthy puff full of flavors 9/10 times. matter of fact i'm thinking about getting a 2nd one pretty soon.

For a mech squonk, the pulse and hugo squeezer are good places to start.

For regulated, the pulse 80w, and hcigar inbox are good budget choices that are not cheaply made.

If you want dual battery regulated, I would say the gbox is going to be the most reasonable option as of right now, but I am sure there will be some nice options pop up later this year.
