Hi all!
I'm curious on how long people can go without putting new wicks in their rdas?
Seems like once I hit 3 days, my vapor and flavor crash.
The experience suffers.
I can clean the coils (dry burn)
And I get around a week sometimes two before the coils are bad.
But only 2-3 days on wicks.
So.
18650 mech mod (clone manhattan)
LG HE4 batteries
.8 to .5 ohm coils (dual)
Diy juice 5mg (custard or blackberry) (lighter in color)
Clt v3 or Vulcan rda
Size 12 loafers (birkenstock insole)
(OK. I could not resist that... sorry)

Hey. Thanks for any advice, tips, or heads up.

Jeez. I tried to put all the pertinent info.
Yes. No pg all vg!
I use Japanese cotton pads.
So you rewick fairly often too?

I just tried a herakles tank, and some folks on ecf say a coil will last 3 weeks?
I chain vape, but 3 week coils seem like a fantasy.

I have a coil in my RTA that's over a year old. I don't clip the tails, I just bend them up along the posts. I remove the coil and soak it alcohol (very infrequently), then put it back on. I vape this rig everyday and haven't had any trouble.

ETA: Oops! I didn't realize you meant pre-built coils. Sorry.

Actually I was curious about hand wound and pre built.
So thank you!

I'm assuming cotton? I change mine every 2 i vape at 70 watts with a 90/10 vg/pg ratio all it takes is one dry hit and bam

I just make basic 1.2-1.5Ω/28 gauge/single coils. I got fancy for awhile and experimented making lower resistance and multi-coils, but I kept coming back to my sweet spot.

I think .7 is about my favorite.
I just tried a .2 and a .3 and found Them too Warm and not as enjoyable.
But to each his own.

I rewick quite often haha, sometimes twice a day just because. I've used a dual Clapton I did for almost 2 months. Just dry burn it, run it under a little water to clean all the gunk off of the coil, and the coil is literally like new! And 100% vg will gunk the hell out of your coil, I'd switch to a rebuildable tank like a mini subtank or something.

You would switch because of 100% vg?
I have never heard vg works better in a rta better than an rda?
or did I misunderstand?

I rewick daily on my Dark Horse (main dripper). Every other day for my Mutilator(clouder) and my Rampage get a new wick for every time i change flavors. My Mutilator gets less frequent usage so doesnt need wicks that often, while the Rampage only gets one flavor at a time so i change only when switching flavors.

My coils last months. I only change them when I want to try something different. I use cotton bacon and have gone thru over 100mL of DIY juice in my KFL on one piece of cotton. In my drippers, I have never worn out a piece of cotton because I change it when changing flavors. But 50 - 60 mL of 75%-90% VG juice on a wick in a dripper @ 50 - 80W has never been a problem. The wick's life will vary greatly depending on your juice and wattage.. But the coils should last almost forever. Eventually, they will warp from constant heating and cooling and will no longer make full contact with the cotton. That's when they need to be replaced.

See? This is why I stopped using cotton and switched to rayon... I was changing cotton wicks every day or two (more than a day on cotton is just masochistic!). With rayon, I typically get more than a week without a wick change... and that includes my rda's with 0.2 ohm coils on mech mods. Wanna change flavors... vape it dry and add a new flavor. No reason to change wicks. You might get one or two pulls where you taste the old flavor, but that's it. I really don't see myself ever trying another wicking material any more. Rayon has fixed all of my wicking issues... head over to the rayon thread and learn all the tips and tricks. Rayon Wick: Better Flow, Flavor, Saturation and Nic Hit

I didn't like it much when I first tried it, but it grows on you. I use rayon exclusively now.

It can be tricky when you first start... mentally, you want to wick the same way as you did with cotton. Then the results are sketchy... but once you get the hang of it, nothing else really compares! At least for me...
