Hi all.

Ego-C user here.

My 2 batteries have been dying over the last week after about 10 months of vaping. This puts them at about 5 months each of daily use, a fair life I suppose.

Now, I can go and buy 2 new batteries for $50 each or I was thinking of seeing what is inside the battery housing of the Ego. I have watched a couple of YouTube vids and it seems the housing can open at both ends without a great deal of difficulty. The threaded end pulls out and at the other end - the bottom - the small silver cap can pop out.

Now...

What kind of battery is in there? Is it just a rechargeable AA that can be replaced? I am assuming it is cheaper to buy a rechargeable 650mA battery from an electronics store than the whole housing from Janty.

Has anyone been inside this housing? Can this be done reasonably simply? I just don't want to throw away the whole thing (atty collar, carto sleeve)...seems wasteful and needless as everything is still working fine (if the battery would charge).

Thanks!

I am fairly certian the eGo batteries are considered disposable. I am sure, with the right knowledge, you could replace the battery portion of the eGO but it will probably cost you more time and effort than just ordering a new eGo, unless you are gifted in a battery kind of way. From what I have seen the eGos are not a simple thing on the inside.

I've been there, done that. I had an ego passthrough which died and needed a new circuit board. Got a new board and replaced both the battery and board. However...

The battery came from a different ego and so did the tube. The battery in a passthrough is much smaller than a normal ego and I decided to forego the passthrough for a regular type. Now the battery is not just a typical AA or anything - it has tabs on either end and you solder wires to them. Also, the only place I've found them is on Chinese sites that have a minimum 1000 piece order!

I would suppose that some American manufacturer could supply this type of battery, I just have not been able to find one.

And don't just throw it away! I've made tanks from old Ego battery tubes, adapters from the 510 connector and used the circuit boards in box mods. As a matter of fact, I never throw out anything ecog related - it is difficult to find any of the small parts that you can save from them!

For the $50.00 you'd spend... you can get a simple mod that uses swappable batteries. Then it's $5.00 per battery per replacement.

Many are unregulated (so sold as 3.7 volts... but it follows battery voltage -- 4.2 -> 2.8). Some are regulated.

Of course, you'd need a charger. Make sure they are vented too...use protected or IMR batteries.

I don't suggest replacing any battery in an eGo but if you do, make sure it's the same part and that you don't hose the connections. There's little wires running around in there.

Even less expensive:
If you save the connector, and get a 2xAA box and a 3-amp or better button (at a ocal electronics store? RadioShack sells them here in the states) you can make your own. Then the only thing you need to buy is the charger and batteries. Use protected batteries or IMR batteries and either make vent holes or don't put the screw on the cover.

Of course this assumes that you have soldering iron, solder, wire. Suggest you pick up some epoxy.

See the modder's section. :)
