Hi - I've been googling around and can't seem to get good info on this and am looking for a little insight. I started vaping 4 days ago. I've been a half pack or so smoker for 20 years and keep falling on and off the wagon. I smoked menthol lights so got the 8MG nicotine liquid in a menthol flavor. I have probably taken 20 or so hits a day off the ecig for the last 4 days but it seems to be making my sinuses and tongue burn and my lungs ache ... like even worse than cigarettes! I suppose it's possible I'm allergic, tho I don't have any other allergies at all. If so, I'm bumming cause I really think ecigs could work for me and get me off cigarettes for good. Any ideas? thank you!

It could be the PG or it could just be from changing over from cigarettes.
Why is my ecigarette giving me a sore throat? - ECF InfoZone

I had a sore throat/felt like my throat was closing in for about a week when I started vaping, I am on day 13 and my throat isn't sore anymore. At first I thought I had a sensitivity to PG. But now I am fine and I have been using 70% PG/ 30% VG juices. But I also started drinking much more water than I used to. By day 4 I was super dehydrated from vaping. Now I drink twice the amount of water I used to and no dehydration issues either.

Hi Isabella, sorry to hear about your reactions. I am a new vaper as well, and have had some similar reactions, but perhaps to a lesser extent. The recommendations above are sound, and it does take a wee bit of time to become fully adjusted to vaping. Definitely make sure you have enough juice in there (not sure what your setup is) or it will be very dry, but most importantly you need to increase your water intake significantly. PG dries you out something fierce. Other than that you can adjust the ingredient content of your juice. I am not sure what you have now, but people can be allergic to both PG and VG. Experiment with juices with a greater amount of either and see how it affects you. You should be able to find 2.5ml or 5ml sample bottles for quite cheap. I hope it gets better for you because I never thought I could quit until I found ecigs.

Are you using cartos? If you are, are you making sure you're topping them up to keep them moist? If the cartos dried all the way, you're probably vaping burnt polyfill... yuck!

This is one of the most common issues when you first start vaping - cartos have to stay really moist to avoid burning the ploy fill. Its possible, that even if the carto seems moist you are still burning a little poly fill with your juice. I experienced this and it was so pronounced for me I switched over to clearos. No problems at all since Ive been using mini vivi novas.

That happened to me too when I started. I thought the burnt taste was part of the flavor of the tabacco flavored juice and the throat burn was the throat hit. lol

You could be having a reaction to EITHER the Propylene Glycol OR the Vegetable Glycerine. Find out the percentage of each in the juice that you are using to know for sure whats going on. I too suffered the same problem, but with VG heavy juices. Now I can vape VG heavy juices no problem, so it must go away eventually for some of us.

Can you tell us where you bought your e-cigs, what e-cig your are using, and what juice you are using? Brand? Company Etc... We'll need more info to help you the best we can.

Like has already been stated before. You need to find out what ratio your using. Different people have different reactions. Also like was said earlier, DRINK LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER. I tried a 50pg/50vg and was having trouble. Switched over to a 70pg/30vg and tolerate it real well. Others can't do pg at all and need 100%vg.

I know when I started, I had the burn and tight lungs as well. I only really used it intermittently for the first month or so. I couldn't inhale because my lungs would feel heavy for about 12 hours after.

I switched to 70pg/30vg and 12mg nic from 100pg 24mg nic. Still had the same issue.

I started vaping full time last week, not inhaling at all, or only a little here and there. By the end of the week I found that it just didn't bother me anymore. I could inhale, even chain vape with no issues. It just took a little while for my system to get used to the vapor.

Hope this helps.

Been vaping for just a few weeks myself, and I haven't had an analog since. The first few days of vaping are a steep learning curve. The irritation could certainly be from a dry'ish carto. The other big factor is how hard and long you draw on the device. Anything over 4 or 5 seconds tends to risk scorching, and burnt juice is pretty nasty. A big ugly burnt marshmallo flavor note is how you know you've over hit your puff.

While it is definitely more likely a reaction to the PG/VG ratio, or dry cartos...I have found myself having really strange reactions to certain vendors liquid and the flavoring brand they used. It gave me headaches, stomach hurt, bad feeling for sure. I'd focus on getting premium liquid, in sample size from different vendors. Hope that helps

Wow - this is so helpful...thanks everyone. So, yes I did buy a Volcano at a mall kiosk. I tell you, filling the cartomizer is NOT easy. And I am pretty sure (per some of the advice below) that I hadn't filled it enuf. I tell you, that liquid gets everywhere. Most irritating. BUT! Since I began getting some of this helpful info, I went on line and ordered an AquaVapor ecig. I like that it looks more like a cigarette .. smaller and less obtrusive. I got pre filled cartomizers - easy to work with, but didn't know at the time that I should try mixing in some VG. So I've also ordered 50% VG/50% PG liquid that hasn't yet arrived- so will try that with the Volcano. I do seem to be getting used to vaping, tho. AND... not one single cigarette (do you call them "analogs") for 8 days!! Okay...now: not to drive everyone crazy but is there a preference for a TYPE of ecig (i.e. maybe the Volcano wasn't the best choice) and pre-filled over fill-yourself? I'm thinking it may take some trial and error before finding what works well, yes?
