Lost an entire 401 mowing the lawn. Dammit!
Burnt a 401 atomizer in a bad cig lighter plug. Dammit!
Oh! My pocket is hot! RIP my 4 month old 4081 NPRO atomizer. Sigh.
This week, burnt 2 more, a 4081 and a 901 because I didn't turn the box off before I put it in my pocket!
5 down, all my fault, user error. 4 months and none have died.
The only cleaning I have ever done is random dry burn when I first got my NPRO and a couple of times when I have tried sucky flavors, I pumped up the pressure cooker and steam cleaned them over the nozzle. Works great.

901 attys generally last me about 3 weeks on average.. That's not good.

i have a few 901 attys going on 7 months , never cleaned , 1 flavor only.

i also have a few 510 attys lasting me 2 months already with no issues at all. ... again... no cleaning , usually 1 flavor only

I had a pretty high 510 failure rate when I was cleaning them. The metallic taste is sure fire sign that the addy is dry, which is a big no no and I believe the primary reason for failure. No cart mod will completely cure your atty drying out, best to either drip a few drops of juice, replace the cart, or if its full, let it sit for a few minutes to wick. Sometimes I will get the metal taste and the cart is wet, Ill put a few drops on the atty and will crank again, even after its vaped through the drops, dont know why. Keep your attys wet, they cant really get tooo wet unless you flood, and thats not even fatal, just blow it out onto a paper towel or something. I dont even clean mine if Im changing flavors, as the last flavor will vanish with a couple drags anyway. Cleaning them, I was lucky if a 510 atty lasted over a week. Havent had a single die since I stopped cleaning them (over a month). If you switch flavors a lot, maybe set aside a couple atomizers each with their own flavor. It is fustrating, its a learning curve, you will get your groove. Just hope you find it before you have an entire drawer of hardware in your quest to find the perfect pv.

I lost 1 510 atty in a month. Actually my wife did. I switched her to a 901 with the cut off since she was hot boxing the 510 atty and I am pretty sure it overheated. For me I clean with coke when they start to get hard on the draw. No issues so far. I had 6 with my starter kit and now am down to 5 with a multipak purchase from a supplier I got 10 more for backup. If things keep going well I should be OK for a while.

Good luck on your situation. I saw a supplier offered a helping hand in this thread. Nice

i haven't cleaned two of em ...and they still give me that taste .....

Im tellin ya man, keep a small bottle of juice wit ya and drip a couple drops on the atty when it tastes like that. For one, you will get a few massive drags, and by the time you feel like hittin it again, the juice in your cart will have wicked the juice to the top, hitting the atty. If you are getting a plastic taste, your cart is dry or the poly is stuck on the atty bridge, if you are getting a metal taste, your atty is dry for whatever reason. I was adamantly against dripping, until I tried it. Now I just carry a small 3ml bottle with me, and two drips on the atty and top off the cart and Im straight. If you hot box it, you are using more juice than the cart material can keep up with. Hope you find your problem, and again, I personally wouldnt clean it unless its just not producing any vapor for ya, and thats after youve blown it out and put a couple drops on the atomizer. Hope you figure it out.

By the way, what kind of juice are you using, or are you using stock carts? The reason I ask is some stock carts Ive purchased (not going to mention vendor) were wet on the top and only lasted a handful of drags. Pulling the poly out of a new cart revealed the top is wet but the bottom half of the poly is dry. JC juice also seems to vape away a lot quicker than most. Two drips of JC juice will give me 2-3 good drags, while the same amount of juice from other suppliers lasts 3 times as long.

Did it really take this long for someone to say this?

If you clean it, you better let it dry enough.
And if you let it dry enough, you better put some juice on it.
And if you put some juice on it, you better give it time to wick up.
And if you give it time to wick up, you better put some more juice on it.

Seriously.

And if you find that your draw is harder than expected, with little or no vapor then...
You flooded it with too much juice.

So blow it out and start over.
And when I say blow it out I mean really, blow it out hard.
