This weekend I started to screw one of my Pro tank 3s onto one of my Ego Twists. It acted as if the threads on one or the other had been completely stripped, as if there were NO threads. I tried the battery on another PT3 and it worked just fine. I then tried another PT3 on the original battery and it worked just fine. It seemed that this particular battery/tank combination just didn't work. Unfortunately, I don't have numbers on my batteries to know exactly which battery was causing the problem or which tank it wouldn't screw onto. I numbered my batteries after that and hit the same combination this morning. I haven't been able to find any reference on ECF that addressed this particular peculiarity. Has anyone else run into this?

Best theory i can come up with is based on 'loose' tolerances during manufacturing processes.

I.E. One ego battery has slightly 'shallow' threads while the other ego has 'normal' thread depth. The PT3 with the issue may also have 'shallow' threads and when paired with the other 'shallow' thread ego, won't work, but when paired with the 'normal' thread depth ego, it works fine. As the threads slowly wear on both, the problem would likely get worse.

One thing working in your favor, PT3's are pretty cheap these days (older gen), and you could likely replace the PT3 base with a 1st gen aerotank base.

Hi, it is pretty strange. My guess is just how that particular pro tank was threaded from the factory. Is it a genuine pro tank? Next question, is it a genuine Ego twist? I ask this because with knock off products sometimes things like the threading can be slightly off. And that would cause the issue your expirencing. If both are genuine products it could still be just a strange fluke. For whatever reason, the threading is not compatible with that combination. I wouldn't think much could be done about the mis match.. just chalk it up to a misalignment in that combination. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

I wonder..... I know the PT mini's have had problem not making contact with the 510 positive pin in the batteries. I wonder if it's also not possible for other batteries to have the pin too far up so the mini wont catch a thread. Could try pulling the coil and see if it screws on, and narrow if down from there?

That's a good question too... is it authentic? Many sellers have had more fakes than real PT3 mini's. Other than the code on the box, the real has 3 air holes, many of the fakes have 4.

in manufacturing, tolerances on mass produced items have a "tightness and a looseness" factor... lets say the 510 threads on the battery is +.008"/-.002" and the threads on the atty is +.005/-.006. While on average, most attys will fit most batteries. On a rare occasion you can come across the +.008 battery and the -.006 atty. This combination will give you a.014" gap making the fit very sloppy or unuseable

these numbers were used as an example only since I dont actually know what the true tolerances for the manufacturing of either device is :)
