Reason for Prodigy V1 large size?

Not a complaint here... I'm just curious as to why the Prodigy V1 tube seems so much larger than it would need to be in order to accommodate the RCR123a batteries.

I don't actually have my Prodigy in hand, yet. Maybe there isn't as much play as I'm imagining. But the batteries are about 5/8" diameter, and the Prodigy is over 7/8" in diameter.

Also, two batteries stacked together, end to end, only come to about 2 and 5/8" in length, so why is the Prodigy nearly 2 inches longer than that length?

Like I said, I'm not complaining. I'm just wondering if there is some reasoning behind the size, or if there are certain manufacturing limitations that make it so that a smaller size cannot be produced.

You have the switch housing which fits the switch, the resistor, 2 contact point, plastic button housing, and the button itself. Also, the adapter is a component unto itself, not a simple add on to an existing brass piece.

The tube was also spec'd for 18650 batteries, thus the reason its wider. We could make the tube much thinner, but because we will soon be selling switches for 3.7v or 6v uses, 18650's come back in to play.

Looking the product over, it has to do with how it works. Minimal wiring, for enhanced reliability, and a pressure spring that pushes all the right things together. A bulk of the space you are noticing is the strong base spring, and the capture for the removable/replaceable switch and resistor housing. Essentially, you end up with a device about an inch and a half longer than something with more wires and a permanent switch and resistor, but you gain the ability to very easily replace components that wear out by yourself. and reliability goes up substantially. It's a very smart design.
