It's not the same as silica. Cotton will burn if it is not kept saturated. But it will work well, just make sure it is 100% cotton and boil it about 30 minutes then let dry before using it - in case there is any crud in it.

Yes, it is cotton and will burn if dry, so no dry burning with those wicks in place. It's candlewick so, no guarantee it's even clean, much less sterile so, boil it for 30 mins, or better if you have a pressure caner, put it in there and bring it up to pressure for 15 minutes, then cool and let the pressure drop before opening the caner.
Don't make the cotton wicks any longer than the original silica wicks were and make the diameter just do it fills the space but isn't compressed or overly snug in there - cotton swells when it gets wet, and it will be getting wet, too large a wick and you get dry hits, too small and it will leak or gurgle.

Ok. Thanks for the heads up. is it called silica wick or they have another term for it?
Yep, silica wick. Comes in different thicknesses, 1mm - 3mm. 3 is good for most things.
Silica Wick is good. Also there is other silica wicks. I like Ekowool, which is made of silica, but it is braided and hollow on the inside. There is also silica sleeving (similar to Ekowool) that has been making the rounds.
Ekowool is pretty popular, as is using cotton.
