I do both RBAs (living room vaping) and Vivi Novas (on the go).

The RBA can be a juice hog for sure, and I have to pay close attention to my batteries and whatnot for safety. When playing with this stuff I find a good pass-through is worth the investment (safer...no battery fuss...)

The Vivi Nova set-up has a small sweet spot and doesn't like more than 5 to 8 watts...I need PWM with a Kick to keep it tuned in for a good all day pacifier style vape. The up side is low juice use (I do higher nic with these tho), and I don't need to carry around nearly as many batteries to keep it in the sweet spot.

Without the kick on a Vivi Nova...I'd wind for a sweet spot around 3.4 volts and take the battery off the charger early (around 3.8v)...or you could wind up with a build that tastes like toast on a fresh battery, is nice in the middle...and a useless flavored air straw when the battery voltage drops. The 3.4 under load range in most batteries I've come across is sustained far longer than the 4.2 volts it has right off the charger. Also without a kick, I'd double the number of batteries I normally carry.

There's nothing easy or simple about vaping and the more I read on these forums the more confused I get. Do they have a vaping for dummies book? Lol
It seems everyone has different ideas and I'm not sure who to take advice from.
My local shop gives me advice that is completely different than what I get in these forums. I want to learn all the ins and outs so I can use all my mods to their potential and be safe doing it at the same time. There are so many topics to explore in these forums that I don't think I'll find all the info I want in this lifetime

It doesn't have to be complex.
At first it gets a bit involved just finding something you like and learning the simple tricks to 'tune' it so you can enjoy it.

The key is balance...
In the end you'll find a good compromise between lifestyle, budget, and performance.

I just picked up a nemesis mod and a trident dripping atomizer, my local shop sold me a Panasonic ncr 18650b 3400 mah battery to use with it but in these forums it says its a bad idea. Im not even sure if that battery is protected or not. I want to get a great throat hit with a lot of vapor consistently and I will be happy. I rebuild my Evod heads with my eyes closed and wanted to go to the next level which I believe would be sub ohm vaping. I have a meter on order and all precautions will be taken to ensure safety. Now I just need the right source for the right information.

hey! the used car dealer down the street says the same thing :D

well when it comes to these forums VS people from B&M's ill stick to ECF, Lately too many B&M's seem to be misinforming people or not even aware of the dangers they present to customers with these off the wall builds and lack of information.

for most of the crowd here we are concerned with doing things correctly and maintaining a degree of safety while doing it.

in any case the best and most thorough answers will come when the questions are very specific with as much information as possible.

stuff like -I wrapped this wire on the wick inside the tube and now it wont fire - doesnt help anyone we cant guess what your doing or using.

as for questions, some people dont want to seem like they are imposing too much but we are all here to help, and the only way we can help is if others ask as many questions as they need answered. you spend enough time here and you will walk away with enough information about your device to school most of the B&M people lol

simple - the panasonic B is NOT a high drain battery it should not be used in a regulated mod, it has an amp limit of 6.8 amps, using an ohms law calculator you can see you can safely go down to about .8 ohms on a mechanical mod with it, any lower should not be used.
I use them in my mech but i personally would never use this battery in a VV mod

we dont say its a bad idea we say it is a bad idea to assume this battery can be used in ALL situations.

Any RBA/RDA is only as good as how well you learn to use it, and since taste is so subjective there is no universal guide for a "best way" to build one. Each individual must determine what it is that they want, and then figure out how to get there with whatever RBA/RDA they choose to use.
Trust me, the builds that I use only work in my RDA of choice (Pegasus), and probably only for me. So it's somewhat pointless to bother going there, and I'll just say that you can get a good quality LR 510 atomizer, and get the same vape.

There are lots of ways to get plumes of vape without alot of current/amps.
Higher voltage 5v batteries with higher resistance coils.
Boosting circuits like the Kick 2.

Sub-Ohm got popular mainly because people began to experiment with 'multiple parallel coils' to get more coil to juice surface area on 3.7v battery platforms. These typically run just hot enough to glow, but you have LOTS more wire to heat up all at once...hence the need for more battery current.

The point of controversy isn't so much about the atty, but more about the safety and risk involved in doing it with a small Ion battery.

We know that the better cells are carefully tested and given ratings that are usually dependable, but we also know there are counterfits, and batteries do get damaged with time/abuse/age. We also know that the quality and performance of chargers can vary widely (some over-charge...some charge too fast, etc.)

Batteries can also degrade with each charge cycle...so what is pefectly safe when new...can be a time bomb waiting to happen as it's been recharged a bunch of times. It's also EASY to get older batteries mixed up with newer ones.

Aside from the living room vape...
Consistency and balance in whatever you screw on the battery is what keeps most people off of smoking tobacco.

With your current battery...a nice single coil build, 2 to 3 Ohm coil, with a smaller air hole can indeed produce a very fine, warm, and tasty vape that should be safe.

Just be very careful, and check that battery OFTEN, and consider going IMR High Drain if that's not working out for you.

Just me, but personally, I'd rather move to the 5v battery (or better yet, a good pass-through) and stay above 1 Ohm builds if you want to push into the forray of dual, tri, and quad coil tinkering.

I wanted to try my nemesis mech with the trident dripper but the coils that came on the trident wouldn't get hot and I haven't received my meter in the mail yet.
I took out the stock coils and made 1 single micro coil with a 1/16 Allen wrench and cotton for the wick, it measured at 1.5 ohms when I tested it in my sigelie vmax. I put that coil in the trident with the Panasonic battery in the nemesis and I get great vapor and great throat hit and good flavor. Is that a safe setup? When I get my meter I would love to do dual coils but at .8 ohms I'm not sure if each coil is that or is each coil .4 ohms for a combined measurement of .8 ohms???????
I completely understand about being detailed as possible when asking ? . I hope I am being specific enough and I'll be sure to take no more advice from my local shop

When doing dual coils in parallel, your resistance goes DOWN by half. Current is GREATER. So don't get that turned around.

    I.E.
2 Two Ohm coils = 1 Ohm total.

On the safe limits of your battery:
    1. Look up the C rating of your battery (that will be the MAX rate...so give yourself some head room).

    2. Use Ohm's Law to see what current your atty will draw at 3.7v
    Ohm's Law Calculator

Make sure what ever you build lands safely within the C rating of your battery.
    Again, give head room.

If you operate your battery in the higher spectrum of it's C rating...consider dividing the number of charge cycles in half (or in the least, monitor that battery with great care...check it frequently...get rid of it AS SOON as you notice that it's not lasting very long anymore).

Only use 3.7v IMR High Drain batteries with the Kick.

The kick adds 100mm to the length of your battery...
So if your mod doesn't have a kick ring and is 18650 sized, then you'd need 18500 batteries to use it.

That little button can actually 'boost' the voltage up to 6v.

The 5v option is only if you do NOT install a kick.

The Kick provides full regulation. It's a digital PWM (pulse width modulation) circuit.
    Advantages.
    1. You can simply vape till it stops. The kick stops firing when the battery gets low (around 3.2volts). This is a pretty big safety feature...as you should NEVER vape an unregulated mod till the battery is totally dead....that ruins the battery (reverse polarization) and can be dangerous as well.

    2. You can set the watts you want with a little screw pot in the top from 5 to 15 watts.

    3. It constantly monitors and adjusts the voltage as resistance falls or rises on the coil(s)...keeping the signal perfectly flat over the entire length of your draw.

    4. Consistent...the first draw off a freshly charged battery at 4.2 volts will be the same as the last draw at 3.4ish volts when it decides to stop firing.

    5. Short protection. Protects from a 'hard short' that can put a battery into catastrophic failure.

In short...you get a VW (variable wattage) PWM APV that you can move around and use in any of your 18mm unregulated PVs :) It's like having a ZMax/VAMO/ETC in VW mode...but without a fancy digital screen (and the pulse signal on the Kick is better...at least on paper).

    Disadvantages:
It will not fire an atty under 0.5 Ohms (Still much lower than most VW/VV mods out there right now).
Its top wattage will be 15 watts (possibly more under sub-ohm conditions, but it only boosts to 15w).

Note, there are different versions of the kick out there.
    Evolv Kick 1 - 5-10 Watts...lowest resistance atty is 1.5 Ohms.
    Evolv Kick 2 - 5 - 15 watts...lowest resistance atty is 0.5 Ohms
SmokTech Kick - 5 - 12 watts ...lowest resistance atty is 1.5 Ohms.
    And probably more....

The Evolv kicks are the best (really tight PWM signal) but cost a bit more (around $45 bucks)
The clones are worth the $10-20 price...but not as good as the Evolv.

when you put two coils together the total measurement is half - so to get a reading of .8 you need (2) 1.6 ohm coils and your good to go

the 1.5 setup is a very safe range. you may not get the best battery life once the battery dies off a little but it should work fine.

Wow! I completely had that turned around but only in my head. I'm actually very satisfied with everything I'm getting out of the trident dripper with a single 1.5 ohm coil using the nemesis with my Panasonic ncr18650b battery. Throat hit-vapor and flavor is probably more than double anything else I've tried on my vmax.
What would be a good rba to use with the nemesis?

I've only tried some of the cheaper stuff (under $20).
They were all fine...just have to look around and see which looks like a platform you'd enjoy more.
I.E. Some have phillps screws, some hex, some can work with your fingers.
Some are LARGE but easy to get in there and fiddle with. Some are small, but not much room.
Some might look better on the nemisis than others...etc.

Right now I play around with an IGO-W...no complaints here but for me it needs bigger holes (requires a drilling).

Fiddle with an inexpensive one first...see how you like that...beyond...the sky is the limit.

If you mean RBT (Usually configured as Gennys)
I have no experience with those....they're pretty big and heavy...and not exactly leak proof in a pocket.

So on the tank front...I'm happy with custom wicking Top Coil Vivi Nova tanks (light, can pocket, etc.)

    Just my 'opinion'...
If you're going with multiple coils for performance...don't worry much. Just carry extra batteries if needed :)
I'd be more worried about the eJuice it's gonna drink :)

Ok that sounds good, I'm not worried about the juice because it's plenty cheap enough compared to tobacco
