I watched video by Rip Tripper on rebuiding a mini PT2 coil and he puts the cotton in the coil at the end. Would it be correct to say that I do not have to build the entire coil myself, I could just buy new coils and pull out the stock silica and simply replace it with cotton? That would save me the trouble of fiddleing with wrapping the actual coil. Is there some benefit to doing the entire coil yourself other than just saving money? Or can I simply replace the stock silica with cotton? I know you can customize the ohms but I'm not worried about that I would just buy the ohms that I want on the replacement coils.

Hey, I used to use the ProTank, the first version but i gave it away to my mum. However, i use cotton in my RDA's and Kayfun and i can say since then i have not used silica. Its so much more easier than silica, you can just whip out the old cotton dry burn the coil and re wick it and the flavor is alot better than silica and you don't have any of the nasty starting taste that you do with silica. Normally the only time i get a taste from cotton is if i use too much. :)

Yep, and it seems that taste diminishes greatly after a couple of hours, at least in a PT2. It's funny, I had a couple of stock heads left, so I was trying a new Kahlua and cream juice in a PT2 with one of them. (Yeah, yeah, I'm cheap!) The taste was just, eh. I rebuilt a coil, and the difference was night and day, not even close. I have committed myself to buying stock heads as needed and immediately ripping them apart and rebuilding them. I don't even vape them any more.

haha :'), I remember rebuilding protank heads with silica. It was pretty good but yeah cotton is just amazing, hold so much juice too especially in a dripper where the silica can't hold as much as cotton just lay the deck with cotton and it must hold over 1ml of juice its brilliant. rebuilt two of my drippers yesterday and the kayfun, got the kayfun at 1.2ohms with cotton. IGO-L 1.2ohms cotton and a trident V2 at 1ohm with cotton, just flawless :)

Whoops, I guess I wasn't clear about that...Let's try that again after coffee#2. Some folks taste cotton with a new re-wicked coil at first. I sometimes do myself. The flavor of the cotton diminishes, not the juice. Either way, the difference between silica and cotton is pronounced; cotton is a whole new game, taste wise.

I do all my rebuildables in cotton these days EXCEPT the Diver 2. I just haven't had any luck at all doing that one with cotton and it not leaking. The juice holes on the sides are huge and when you slide it down to top the tank you destroy the cotton. SO it works fine on the first tankful but if you top it off it starts leaking. The original diver however cotton is just fine on.

I find it hard to believe that the cotton doesn't burn, especially since it is in direct contact with the heating element (coil)

The juice keeps it from burning (this is why you don't dry-burn cotton). It's like a pot of boiling water, as long as there's water left in the pot, the temp. won't go above 100C.

the flavor diminishes due to the gunk build up on the coil... it starts acting like a heat insulator and eventually seals the "gaps" in the coil thus reducing the flow of juice to the coil... I notice the diminished flavor after 2-3 days. For a test....I pulled the cotton, did a dry burn cleaned the ash off the coil stuck the used cotton back in and the flavor was just as good as new cotton.

Oh it does if it's dry. I left my PV on one time by mistake after an ohm check and hit the fire button after threading a new piece of cotton through, snipped that sucker in half instantly.

The only issue I would see is when you take out the silica of the new coil you may bend or misshape the coil. You would have to re space all the coil loops and dry fire to make sure there are no hot spots before putting cotton in. The hardest part I found with cotton in my mpt2 was getting the right amount of cotton. To much and it choked the coil and dry hits. To little and floodeing .
