Rebuilding Curious

Hey kids. I'm serious about vaping. Up to this point, however, I only been using tank systems like the Nautilus or Mini Nautilus. I really want to learn how to build my own setup, but I'm afraid I'll .... it up. Can anyone point me in the right direction on finding an easy instruction on how to do it? Also, what would be the best starting point? Dripper or tank?

IMO, drippers are easier to learn how to build on, but as Susan started with the battery question, there are many other questions that you need to have answers to before you start down the rabbit hole that leads to rebuildable nirvana...
What battery/mod do you plan to use?
Do you have an ohm meter/volt meter/or DMM?
Do you know how to use it?
Do you know Ohm's Law?
Do you know how to use it?
Do you know what the different ratings for batteries mean?

Those are the beginning questions... after that, it's all pretty simple. But you need to be able to answer those questions and have the knowledge to use the right equipment to be able to truly get into building safely.

Well, considering the fact that you are on a regulated mod, that can save your .... on a lot of the safety issues (note that I'm not saying to ignore safety altogether) :)
You can probably forgo the DMM for now, as your mod will give you the resistance of the build, and will not fire in the event of a short.
I would assume that you are using decent batteries... if you went authentic, I also assume that you are using the batteries recommended by Hanna Modz.
Check out The Steam Engine. It'll give you a lot of good info on how many wraps you need for a given resistance. There is also an Ohm's Law calculator there.
I would suggest picking up a cheap RDA... an Igo or whatever floats your boat. It'll have plenty of room for learning how to wrap and mount a coil. Try to aim for 1.5 to 2 ohms to start with... either single or dual coil.. dealer's choice.
Then you'll want to wick the coil. Cotton, ekowool, rayon... again, dealer's choice.

Don't worry too much about F'in things up. You've got a good base to learn on, and it'll save your .... for you during the learning process. And if any of this doesn't make sense, we're here to help. :)

Cool! I've been and electronics tech for 20+ years... you shouldn't have any problems with rebuilding... honestly, the part that'll probably be the toughest for you (it was for me) is wicking. I would recommend rayon (cellucotton). You can pick it up at any Sally's beauty supply store... much more forgiving than cotton to me. This thread is pretty long, but has a TON of good advice on how to wick with rayon... and everyone over there is very friendly and helpful.
I'd say just pick out whatever RDA you think you might like and go for it... if ya run into any problems and can't seem to find the answers, just shoot me a PM and I'll help you through it. :)

I started building my own coils in June, after more than a year and a half of vaping. I bought a Kayfun and a cheap dripper, plus an ohm meter and wire. I only use regulated devices and aim for 1.5-2.0 ohm coils. After I managed to get the Kayfun and the Dripper working right (with some trial and error) I looked in the drawer and found all of my old PTs and Evod type tanks. Found the jar with all of the old coils I had been saving and began rebuilding. I spent a rainy Sunday afternoon rebuilding 20 old PT coils and wicking with a cotton ball. Now I'm a Pro and I wonder why I waited so long.

What was the cheap dripper you bought?

Thanks, Cam

I have a TOBH ATTY that I thoroughly enjoy. I also have a Smoktech Caterpillar that is alright just make sure all the posts are tightened down right or you wont get nothing. As for building coils I suggest you look up a guy name Rip Trippers on the you tube. he has many videos of all types of coils from very easy to very very hard.

As an old lady (and daughter of a classic EE), I was worried about rebuilding and waited quite awhile before I tried it. It seemed tricky. When I finally went ahead and bought a rebuildable, it was d'oh - why did I wait so long?? Yes, there were a few failures along the way, with some bits of wick and wire being tossed into the trash, but even most early attempts were vapable. Like anything else, you get better over time. Go for it! Now the hard part.. what to get? Take your time and have fun researching to find the one that fits you. Warning.. you may not stop at one
