Rebuilding Kanger head coils with machine screw

has anyone tried this method when wrapping their coil during a rebuild of kanger t3/ protank heads?

i tried it the other day and coils looked great but did not perform well. i was getting 2.2 - 2.6 ohms with 5 wraps on silica wick (tested on my vamo). loaded up some juice and primed it, but got really bad burnt taste when i took a hit. did i screw up? i tried it on both the kanger t3 and protank and built about 3 coils for each. same result each time.

also,did you burn off your wire first,reason i ask first couple i did, that's where i was messing up was getting same result, then i watched the video. i assume you are talking about the one made by vapingwithdave

started at 5W and steadily moved up to about 8 (which is where i normally vape).

barefootntx : i did run a flame from a lighter along the kanthal (30 gauge) before wrapping. didn't make a difference.

funny thing is, when i hand wrap the coils, they vape great. i wanted this method to work because of the even spacing of the coils to reduce hot spots.

mebbe one a the vets will chime in, reason i replied was because i didnt burn off the wire first and it was naaasty,first couple i did, now its all good, im still new to it and learning.

Is the coil reasonably tight around the wick? I tried that method before but didn't have much luck. I use a sewing needle now and wrap it pretty tight. Once I remove the needle it's a good fit on the wick.

I use that on my T3s and my CE6s and it works great.

That's a stumper. I'm assuming that you normally vape this juice at 8 watts so it can't be too high a wattage for your juice so the only other thing I can think of and it might sound dumb but I would boil and soak in alcohol the screw you are using to make your coil. Maybe there's some grease or some other gunk on it that is getting on the wire. Good luck.
