Rebuilding Protank coil

Hi guys,

I found this great video to rebuild Protank coils; Mini Protank Micro Coil Rebuild - YouTube

My only question is.. how many wraps should I do using 30 gage Kanthal wire? In the video he uses 28 gage

What resistance you going for? I do 9 wraps on a 16 ga. Needle for 1.8 ohm.

I do 5 wraps of 30 gauge on a 3/64 allen wrench. Comes in at around 2.1ohms.

I dont have any drill bits.. what can I use to wrap it around that is of equal width?

edit: the smallest bit I have is 5/64

edit2: I just realised in his video that he uses a 5/64 drill bit lol. I'll try this with 9 wraps of 30ga

Small screwdriver... stick from a q-tip... anything... just make sure if fits between the cutouts on the protank chamber!

and it cannot touch the cutouts right? I just did it and I think mine is too spaced, so it is touching the sides of the cutouts.. I guess I have to wrap as close as possible together.. this is tough lol

It's usually about 1 to 2 inches of wire.

Had this issue with one of my builds. Read many "fixes" for it but ended up just tearing it down and building it again with no further issues.

Some of the things you can try -

Check the seating of your stem, if it isnt down far enough it can cause gurgling/flooding

flipping the rubber seal on the stem upside down. This didnt help me but I read it worked for a lot of folks.

The use of a top wick or flavor wick seems to come up a lot. Some say if you are getting gurgling with a top wick, then remove it. If you are getting gurgling without a top wick, try adding one. Adding one helped me on that pesky build, but it didnt completely fix the issue, so again, a complete tear down did the trick for me.

There are several ways to rebuild the Kanger coils, so what works for some might not work for you. Even small variations in technique or materials can make a fairly large difference in the end, especially if you're using thinner gauge wire. I think the best method to figure it out is to try a few coils using *your* method and measure them with a multimeter or ohm meter. It will take a few coils to get the process down pat, but then you'll find you're fairly consistent with your method with a given material.

The reason I say this is I was listening to these "x wraps = x ohms" statements here and found when I tried my hand at it, I was way off. I thought I was doing something "wrong"...but it wasn't that, it was just variations in the technique that "x = x" doesn't account for.

If it touches you will have an eletrical short.

If you have an electrical short and you connect a high capacity battery, you could have a problem.

Test your coil before using.

What is your power source?

I'm using an innokin itaste VV V3

I think my coil is too spaced out, I need to wrap it tighter which takes practice I guess.. also I need to buy a torch whereas I was just using a regular lighter, so I guess it wasn't doing the same thing.
Also I perhaps used a bit too much cotton, the juice wasn't getting to the cotton inside the coil

Going to buy a torch and try again next weekend

any other tips would be greatly helpful!

I've to find everything i need though, that's a question for the swedish EFC.
