Order of mixing is pretty much personal choice. I always go flavorings first, PG/VG, then nicotine last. Always doing it in the same order means there is little chance I'll add flavoring twice, or worse, add nic twice. (Both of which I have managed to do before I started always doing it in a specific order...)

Here's a common post and some great advice that can be found often in the DIY mixing section on ECF.

My blogs will give insight into all aspects of DYI, from steeping to what supplies to have on hand to a basic walk through mixing your first E-juice.

Then read hoosier's blogs. These blogs concentrate on fine tuning your mix and give insight on additives.

Then read Boletus's blog's. These blogs concentrate on formulation of nicotine baces regarding proper calculations methods for figuring Nicotine concentration as well as safety.

then read the stickies at the top of the page.

this will explain a lot of the how's and why's.

Danny's pretty much got it right. Learn the how's and why's and mixing is much less intimidating.

I'd have no idea how you'd taste test juice with a tank. I drip. The best blog I know of that gives the information needed to get going well with dripping is http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/the-ocelot/4005-drip-drip-drip-sound-dripping.html

Feel free to join the other mixers in the sub-forum in the first link. We're a friendly bunch and it's hard to beat the experience there to help you with your questions.

Hoosier has most of it covered up there, but....

I'm not a big fan of dripping. Had a few dripping attys and they never really worked out for me. Maybe it's the fiddling that I don't like, maybe I just tried it at the wrong time in my vaping journey.

When I was trying new flavors, I was using cartomizers. I still have like 20 of them laying around taking up space. I didn't mind loading one up with flavor and then tossing it if I didn't like it.

But...that was a couple years ago. I found a flavor that I like and pretty much mix the same thing over and over and over now.

Not a lot to add to the answers above, but if you want to minimize handling the higher strength nicotine you can make a large batch of base just a little bit stronger than what you vape. I make mine to 24 mg/ml, and end up between 18 and 22 after I add the flavors. If you want to be precise on the final nicotine amount you can also make it a bit stronger, proportionally, and then add pg or vg when you add the flavors. So in my example, I could make it 30 mg and use the calculator to always come out to 18.

I can't add much to the DIY question, and I think that Hoosier covered it perfectly. But if you aren't interested in dripping, then no, the mini PT 2's aren't a huge hassle to taste-test with. And if they are what you are going to vape with, at least you will get a true taste-test. You will need quite a few spare coils around, but once you've tried your liquid, then you can take the PT apart, wash it, and soak the coil in hot water, PGA, or vodka to get the residual taste out. That's why you want to have a bunch of spares. They take awhile to dry completely, and sometimes, you just CAN'T get the taste out. Oh, and the only thing to be really nervous about is, as was mentioned, working with high concentration nicotine. Well, that and making awful-tasting concoctions! :p Good luck, and happy mixing!

It don't much matter the order that you add your PG/VG/NIC and flavoring. What matters is understanding how to mix your base down to the proper vaping strength. Hoosier gave some excellent research recommendations. Please read all the recommended material and fully understand the material before getting started. If you don't understand something ask questions in the DYI sub forum before attempting your mix.

I assume by drip tip you are actually speaking of a dripping atomizer (RDA) to test your mixes. They are very handy but not necessary. A cheap 510 atomizer will work just as well. The kanger mini pro will work if that's all you have but really is kind of impractical because there not easy or quick to clean out after each test. Drippers and 510 atomizers are inexpensive and worth the investment.
