I received my EGO yesterday. I had initially purchased a SafeCig which is likely about the same as a Blu or GreenSmoke. It was "ok" I guess - but realized quickly it was not going to replace my analogs.

I wanted to outline my thoughts in case there are other newbies on here that purchased similar type of ecigs and wondering if vaping really is for them and/or if someone has not tried ecigs yet.

1. Amount of vapor is significantly greater with EGO - not even close.

2. The length of time that you can "hit" the ecig is MUCH greater. This provides a much better experience. There really is no comparison. This is probably the biggest difference for me - I didn't like the 4 second limit I was getting before. It was not satisfying.

3. Strongly recomend getting eliguid. The pre-filled cartomizers are just "ok" , in my view. It almost seems like the hits are a little dry or something - I can't really put my finger on it - but there is a big difference. A little liquid added makes a huge difference both in the taste and the feel of the "smoke". You can simply add a few drops to the pre-filled cartomizers or fill a blank one.

4. The EGO is not really as big or as heavy as I had thought it may be. It isn't bad.

5. The battery life on the EGO is all you will need. It rocks.

6. While "manual" batteries are much better I believe for a variety of reasons including control - it may take away the "natural" mental thing a bit. Basically manual means you press the button to vape. I may consider buying an auto battery for it to compare. Again, this is about the mental aspect of smoking.

7. My initial thought is to try stronger tasting liquid. The reason is vaping does not give the "lung hit" as much as an analog but you get the throat hit. I think a stronger tasting liquid might be helpful to me.

8. Cartomizer vs atomizer w/cartridge: Perhaps I am a complete tard and doing it wrong, but I can't get the cartridges with atomizers to last very long before having to put more in it. (I may be doing something wrong - not sure). Therefore, I likely will only buy cartomizers as it seems far easier/longer lasting - unless i figure out that i am not doing something correctly.

9. Adding another possible point on analog size vs EGO. Once the battery begins to get low you get less vapor. I believe this is likely why people are not as happy with smaller Ecigs - even the standard 510, which in theory - should be similar in vapor. The problem is likely that you only get very few hits at while the battery is at full strength - while with the EGO, considering it lasts 5-8 hours of heavy vaping - you get lots. Therefore, even though the 510 and the EGO 510 can have the exact same cartridge, voltage, etc - the vapor experience is likely not near the same because of this.

Therefore, my first review is if you have tried the "mall" or heavily marketed ecigs like Blu, GreenSmoke, SafeCig, etc - and are thinking about giving up on vaping - or you have never tried an ecig - start with the EGO.

My main point on this is that if you get an EGO it will give you a great vaping experience to determine if vaping might be able to replace analogs for you. Then you can always decide later if you want a smaller ecig or try different variations, etc. But at least at this point - you will know.

I bought my EGO starter kit from LiteCigUSA for $55 on sale. This will give you a reference point on cost. I received it in 2 days, which surprised me. You can start out with just this if you want to test ECigs, but should buy an extra box of pre-filled cartomizers and at least 1 bottle of liquid to try that as well.

Also, I had posted the following before I got my EGO and still think this may give a newbie a decent starting point..... if they know zero about all this - as I did less than 2 weeks ago. I didn't get any replies before - so maybe it is worthless!!! lol.

*****************************************************************

Considering that I have spent the last 3 days solid reading and researching all of the options discussed on here (after purchasing Safe Cig last week before I knew anything about all this), i wanted to make an attempt at some basic things to speed up other newbies search.

1. Vapor Amount: This is mostly controlled by the voltage power (you will also see that this is also affected by the resistance of the atomizer, type of liquid, etc - but you need power to begin with). Narrow your search to 3.7 volt power to start. Anything less is likely not going to give the amount of vapor you will desire to replace a real cig (referred on here as analogs).

2. Size: The Ecigs that resemble an analog in size are likely to have a very short battery life. The reason is simple - small cig = small battery. An example of these would be a standard 510.

3. The consensus on here seems to be that an EGO 510 is a good ecig to start your test of Ecigs as it provides a lot of vapor and has a decent battery life. Basically, this is a 510 that is much fatter to accommodate the larger battery. Basically, the size of any e-cig is mostly the size of the battery.

4. There are 3 basic choices of what to "smoke" with these. Pre-filled cartomizers, blank cartomizers and blank cartridges - both of which you fill with "juice".

5. A cartomizer is the atomizer and the cartridge combined in one piece, hence the name. The atomizer is the piece that connects to the battery that heats up when you puff to create vapor.

6. Smoking an E-cig is different than an analog in that you have to inhale slowly to get the proper vapor.

7. The names like 510, 801, 901, etc. mainly refer to the threads that allow their various pieces to connect properly. So a 510 is a 510 and can be found at many different suppliers. The difference is the manufacturer quality and any slight modifications they have made.

8. A Passthrough is basically a power cord that generally connects via a USB to a computer, etc. The purpose of these are 2: eliminate the need to constantly charge batteries if you smoke a lot at home, in front of your pc and secondly to increase the power to 5V to get more vapor.

Again, I have not even received my EGO yet, so I am most certainly not an expert. All of the above as derived from reading MANY posts on this forum. This should give newbies a good place to start to understand as there are so many variations and combination's that to figure it all out is confusing and/or time consuming.

I hope this saves someone some time and assists them in making a good first choice. If you can believe it took me THREE days just to figure this much out... lol. So maybe it will help...

I received my Ego PT yesterday too. Already have a 510 and RN4081 e-cig's so I went cheap and just got the ego PT battery since the ego takes the same hardware as a 510. I've only had it for about 24 hours but I am quite impressed with it so far, lots of vapor much smoother draw, battery charge lasted me my entire shift at work last night. I strongly agree with the not buying prefilled carto's not only does the e juice them usually taste crappy they can be a real ..... top open up and refill the first time. I've broken them before trying to get the cap off, empty carto's come with soft rubber end cap that will pop right off with a paperclip.

No problem. I wanted to help out as it took me a LOT of reading to figure this stuff out. Well, and not to mention $100 on my SafeCigs, lol.

Anyhow, I was shocked I got my EGO yesterday. I ordered it Thursday from LiteCigUSA and was here on Saturday. I had already bought 3 packs of analogs as I thought no way it would be here that fast....

TLSquid - try the "condom" method to refill your cartomizers. It seems to be rather easy to do to me.

Wow! If only I had joined ECF and you had posted that before I bought GreenSmokes, I would've saved $300! Oh well, live and learn. I'm now the proud and satisfied owner of a 510PT and an eGo, and I'll be getting at least a partial refund from GS. That'll just give me more money for juice, Mega attys, cartomizers, and carts!

Yeah, I hope this pops up when people are doing searches on the net. Maybe if I add this: Greensmoke vs. Blu , Greensmoke vs SafeCig this post may have a better chance to show up in searches and maybe save some people money....or more importantly get them the right ecig so they can properly determine if it might be able to replace analogs...

Very helpful post. I had to read a lot to get this info a few days ago when I was researching what to buy for my first e-cig. My partner wanted to get a Blu e-cig but I talked him out of it after I did all the reading here. We got two eGo's instead and we just love them. Next step for us is trying out all the flavors and stocking up on our favorite e-juices.

I also started with Blu, then another rip-off low quality brand, and now have been using an eGo for a few months...

I started with cartridges, but got tired fiddling with them. Now, I drip using a Super T drip tip about 90% of the time, which I find provides a purer tasting, better vaping experience. Occasionally, I use a cartomizer when dripping is impractical, but only rarely. Dripping is definitely the way to go--3 drops in the drip tip, then 8-12 good vapes.

Excellent post! I think this thread should become a "Sticky."

I think i would need a better headline for that to make sure newbies read it.

Most everyone on here certainly knows more than I about all this as I just started, but I tried to cover everything I "researched" via posts on this. Basically, everything in my post came from the people on this sharing their knowledge - I just tried to condense everything into one post.

Then I tried to compare the "blu" type ecigs with my eGO because honestly I was very concerned before i got it. If it was the same I would have been done with vaping, to be frank.

Great post! I started with a Blu and quickly upgraded to a manual eGo. But i'll admit, there are days when i pop my carto or atty on the old Blu just for the fun and novelty of a small sized, automatic vape. Then i come to my senses and put the carto back on the eGo. As a ex 2 pack a day smoker, that Blu can't possibly keep up with my needs. It's very important for people starting out to have a clear idea what to expect from different types of eCigs.

I have been doing the same thing today. For some reason the smaller size appeals to me sometimes. I keep switching back and forth, lol. It is why I just ordered a KR808D-1 - just to try it. I am curious to see the difference more than anything.
