the average 1 PAD smoker goes through about 2-3ml of liquid a day .....so you're on the heavy side of things at 6ml a day though

Yup, I usually go through at least 12 cartos every day at 1/2ml in each (don't vape them completely dry). It could be because I work at home and have 9 months of almost total freedom from work each year, so I've been vaping most of the time. Just can't seem to put it down for very long. I was a PAD (ultra lights) smoker, but this is way better.

Great post!

#6 - Yes, manuals do offer better control, but subtract from the smoking experience. Most of my batts are manual, but I do keep an auto Kr8 around for those occasional times I get hit with a bad craving. It just adds one more thing that is similar to smoking, and it helps. But, the performance is definitely more fickle, so I use manuals most of the time and do prefer them over-all.

#8 - Nah, you're not doing it wrong. Carts don't last very long. That's why a lot of atty-users mod their carts, or drip.

#6 - Since I switched to all manual batteries, I doubt that I'll ever go back to automatic. I really like not having to worry about getting juice in the battery, although I clean the battery threads every time I change cartos.

#8 - or they switch to cartos (which I did after about three days of using an atomizer and cartridge).

I didn't read the whole thread but for your issue with cartidges with atomizer feeling dry, I discovered yesterday that priming the atomizer with a drop of liquid straight onto the bridge when you refill the cartridge makes a huge difference in cartridge life. Without priming, your only other option to get wicking going is to flood the cartridge (and get liguid in your mouth). I had several flavors that I couldnt taste well and just wouldnt vape well (especially the thicker ones) and after trying this (on my third day vaping), I have to say they tasted so good and I got such good vapor that I couldn't resist vaping almost constantly and nearly Od'd on nicotine! lol, I have to drop down to 18mg now! It makes sense in that there is a slow flow of liquid from the cart to atomizer, and if there is not enough liguid near the bridge, what is there is simply vaporized and replaced with air instead of more liquid, so you get a few good puffs and then it tastes like ....!

Another thought, cartos work better because they can be flooded when they are filled using the condom method without getting liquid in your mouth. Anyone try filling a cart with atomizer attached using that method? BTW- I am switching to cartos simply because I am sick of the carts leaking where they pop into the atty and reeking like e juice all the time.

I agree. The strength of hit and taste is better with the atty/cart combo. My issue is that the great hits are only the first couple after filling... then it gets not great - in a hurry. I do like having that option around though and have been using it a couple of times a day when i really want a good hit. I think part of the issue is that I think the atty I have on is a LR. So it provides strong hits - then juice is gone...

My guess is that the best way to get those few strong hits is to simply get a drip tip (where is my credit card- AGAIN...). Then you can use the carto's for main use or on the go... and drip when you want the strong hit. That pretty much takes the atty/cartridge combo out of the mix...

I'm also waiting for my Ego kit. Because of the instant confusion and opinions here, I stayed and read as much as possible before putting an order in. I'm glad that my eyes picked up on the Ego as being a pretty good model. I also went to the millions of links that sold kits. That even caused more confusion. I know that I'm gonna have problems at first. I still don't know if the extras I bought will apply to me. I guess I'm ready to spend a little more money concerning strengths of liquid nic. I have no idea about what strength my cigs are. I do know that it says *light* on the pack. That's as far as their info goes.
I realize that I can't mention a certain company here but I will tell you one thing that happened which amazed me. Last night-Sunday (8PM) I finally submitted the order. After doing that I went back to my order and realized that I ordered the wrong style in one certain item( pass through). I immediately Emailed the company, told them what I did and named off the error, asked if it could be corrected and low and behold, 10 minutes later I received a reply to my email from the manager or owner saying that the problem would be immediately corrected. Imagine, 10 minutes!!. I replyed and said thanks and she replied back saying--No problem. This morning I received an Email from her saying that the order was sent. Hopefully, this kit will help with a serious breathing problem that periodically occurs which I know came from smoking for so many years. My doctor is getting increasing ...... off at me.

Nice review TheBuss. Here's an experiment for you to try and some battery life experience to add to the mix..

You can drip without a drip tip, it's just a little more hassle. Take one of those nasty prefilled carts, pull the lint out, and throw it away. Rinse it out. Put about 3 drops of liquid right on the bridge in the atty, snap the empty cart on and try that out. If you like it, then get a drip tip. You can also remove the wick and remove the bridge to drip directly on the burner. Even better IMHO. I'm using a bridgeless atty with a stainless super-T drip tip on a usb pass-thru right now.

Ahhh batteries... I got my eGo with 3 650mAh batteries. They lasted over a day when brand new. With a couple months of hard use that's dropped to 4-6 hours. I've backfilled those with a couple 1000mAh batteries. They're an inch longer, otherwise the same. Those are all-day suckers and then some. I also picked up two USB pass-thrus for desk and car duty. So now, the large batteries are good for out & about (with a mega carto so I don't need to carry liquid). The regular batteries are good for around the house or short trips.

I totally agree!!

Thanks. I was trying to help as I spent FAR too much time learning about all this stuff back when - and learning more every day on here....

Not sure if that is a good thing - or bad - as their seems to be a direct correlation between what I learn - and my credit card usage.....

This is a very informative thread. Thanks for the great review TheBuss. i agree with the whole thing based on my experiences.
I also have a eGo and a 510 after buying a 901 some months ago. I bought it at a local smoke shop and I don't think it was brand new as it was the last one he had. I had some problems with it and started thinking about a new one. That's when I discovered the ECF. My 901 is OK, but has a much harder draw and less vapor. I will keep it because it is an auto battery.
The eGo and 510 are way beyond my expectations and I am very satisfied with them. I switch between dripping with a drip tip and using cart/atomizer. Dripping is less hassle.

Great Post!! Good job TheBuss, you can definately tell you did your research. I, like TLR1000Squid purchased a Health e-cigarette a little over a week ago. Wish I had found this forum and this post beforehand but that's the way it goes. Am searching now for a replacement but have moded my health e-cig in the meantime so now it smokes pretty decent. This post provides alot of good info to consider when shopping around and I commend you on getting all these facts together for all the noobies out there, me included.

Thanks again,
Rick

Thanks! I am still waiting for my Joye eGo 510 from Puresmoker. I just saw a video from Dr. Vapor on how to easily fill a cartomizer. You should check it out!

vmb - Here's a video showing how to refill a carto much quicker with less mess. I think this was one of the first YouTube videos I watched over a month ago, and after refilling with the condom method for a while, I've decided that the direct dripping method is the easiest, quickest, and least messy refill method.

The following method will work with the Boge 510 and SLB 510 cartomizers (and any cartos where you can remove the mouth cap and see the filler inside). Sometimes, 19 drops may be too much and will clog the filler, especially when a carto has been refilled several times. I'm now refilling with about 14 to 15 drops, instead of 19 to 20 drops.

Also, a fork works fine to remove the mouth end caps that are fitted tightly on the mouth end. You don't need a special tool.
