Considering that I have spent the last 3 days solid reading and researching all of the options discussed on here (after purchasing Safe Cig last week before I knew anything about all this), i wanted to make an attempt at some basic things to speed up other newbies search.

1. Vapor Amount: This is mostly controlled by the voltage power (you will also see that this is also affected by the resistance of the atomizer, type of liquid, etc - but you need power to begin with). Narrow your search to 3.7 volt power to start. Anything less is likely not going to give the amount of vapor you will desire to replace a real cig (referred on here as analogs).

2. Size: The Ecigs that resemble an analog in size are likely to have a very short battery life. The reason is simple - small cig = small battery. An example of these would be a standard 510.

3. The consensus on here seems to be that an EGO 510 is a good ecig to start your test of Ecigs as it provides a lot of vapor and has a decent battery life. Basically, this is a 510 that is much fatter to accommodate the larger battery. Basically, the size of any e-cig is mostly the size of the battery.

4. There are 3 basic choices of what to "smoke" with these. Pre-filled cartomizers, blank cartomizers and blank cartridges - both of which you fill with "juice".

5. A cartomizer is the atomizer and the cartridge combined in one piece, hence the name. The atomizer is the piece that connects to the battery that heats up when you puff to create vapor.

6. Smoking an E-cig is different than an analog in that you have to inhale slowly to get the proper vapor.

7. The names like 510, 801, 901, etc. mainly refer to the threads that allow their various pieces to connect properly. So a 510 is a 510 and can be found at many different suppliers. The difference is the manufacturer quality and any slight modifications they have made.

8. A Passthrough is basically a power cord that generally connects via a USB to a computer, etc. The purpose of these are 2: eliminate the need to constantly charge batteries if you smoke a lot at home, in front of your pc and secondly to increase the power to 5V to get more vapor.

Again, I have not even received my EGO yet, so I am most certainly not an expert. All of the above as derived from reading MANY posts on this forum. This should give newbies a good place to start to understand as there are so many variations and combination's that to figure it all out is confusing and/or time consuming.

I hope this saves someone some time and assists them in making a good first choice. If you can believe it took me THREE days just to figure this much out... lol. So maybe it will help...
