I am totally new to the e- cigarette world, been a smoker for the past 40 years and in need of help to get started, not really looking for a kit at this time, but a suggested e-cigarette to start out on that I will be pleased with, possible with different settings, so I can increase the dose level, best liquid to start out with, I am a smoker of 1.5 packs per day.

I was in the exact same place as you.....40 years and wanting to quit. I chose to get a decent set up with the idea I was going to quit. Nothing too expensive but not the bottom of the barrel either. I got an innokin itaste vv V3 and a Kanger mini protank 2. I did buy one tabacco flavor (that I've never used up) but also some other flavors that actually taste good. Lets face, cigarettes taste like sh......Do you have a vape store near you that you can try flavors? If not I'm sure there will be some folks around shortly to recommend some flavors.

40+ year 2 pack a day (PDA) smoker here. I looked for something close to cig smoke when I started. I doesn't exist. Vaping is like patches or gum to give you nicotine and give you hands and mouth something to do. Find a simple device setup that works and some decent tasting liquid. The longer you stick with it, the more your taste will change and new flavors might interest you more then than now. Liquid comes in different nic levels. You don't increase it with a device. Find a level that satisfies you without getting shaky. I suggest 24mg to start. Good luck.

Hello and welcome. I personally like to advise peope to start with something inexpensive, you can always move on after you've had some experience.
One or two of these kits-> EVOD 650mAh Variable Voltage Blister Pack Starter Kit - MyFreedomSmokes.com
Some extra atomizer heads.-> Kanger EVOD Coil Replacement Heads (5pk) - MyFreedomSmokes.com , and some of the liquid of your choosing.Liquids a personal thing, it's hard to tell someone else what's good. Just check out some flavors you think you might like, check the reviews, and pick one or more and get started.

mvp2 and miniprotank2v2

for liquid, best to find a local vape store if possible.

I was a 25 year year smoker, and same as you right at 1.5 packs a day.I started out with an ego twist and an evod clearomizer(tank),which is pretty easy for a beginner, pretty inexpensive, and most importantly,it does the job and is very easy to use.I think i paid around $22 for the set up off ebay. This would have just what your looking for,you can adjust the voltage to get it where you like it.I bought a regular ego after this, and for me the standard ego i felt did not put out enough power,so i'm glad i started out with the twist first. As for best liquid,i thought the only way i would be satisfied and not want a cigarette was to get a tobacco flavored liquid, and that worked for about a week, then i started getting into non tobacco flavors, and found that with a 24mg nicotine level, for me i didn't need a particular taste as long as i got my nicotine any flavor i liked would do fine,so like mentioned above,if you have a vape shop close to you, most will let you sample flavors, just find what tastes good to you,and go for it.I did not smoke as long as you have, but i can tell you,the taste is so much better, and after just a few weeks of not smoking, you will feel so much better.Good luck.

Couple of folks have recommended the itaste vv 3, and so do I. Reliable, feature-rich, modest size... a great device. You might want to buy 2, though... it may not get you through a full day unless you're connected to a power source. And the protank 2 mini is a good tank. Really can't go wrong with that setup, IMO. I also like the iclear 16's that come with some itaste kits... they're fine for tobacco flavors and easy to fill/clean.

Six months into it, I still like tobacco juices best. The fruity or sweet flavors get old real fast to me (exception being the Mt Baker Vapor Cinnamon Bun... I love that). I buy juice from Mt. Baker... prices and service are great, but if budget is not an issue, you can probably find better. Their 555 tobacco is good, to me. I'd suggest starting at 18mg.

Anyway, above all, just jump in... chances are you'll end up changing devices down the road once you find out what works for you. None of this stuff is really expensive compared to 10 packs of cigarettes per week.

My first purchase... overpriced V2 (kr808) batteries got me off cigs after 35 years... I'm sure you can do it!

40+ years between one and two packs a day. I started with two iTaste VV v3s, and still use those and MVPs. And I also recommend mini protanks or evods. (Is there an echo in here?)

The hard part is finding a liquid (or six) that you like. If you live where you can go and sample, that would be best. For those of us who don't have that luxury, ordering small amounts of different kinds of flavors is good. Try tobacco, mint, fruit, sweet, etc. to decide what you like best.

And after smoking for years, be sure to start with high enough nicotine. Vaping isn't smoking, and you don't get the instant effect.

I agree the iTaste vv 3 is a good place to get started without going overboard. It will let you experiment a bit without spending too much money. By the time it breaks or the battery dies you have a better idea of what you need and be able to spend wisely. I started with tobacco flavors but it was really my first tank full of piña colada that got me hook on vaping and off smoking for good. I now like a variety of flavors and hopefully you will find one that really does it for you. As already stated a vape shop with sample bar really helps narrow your search. If there is some flavor that you really like than ask if they have it or can suggest something similar.

I smoked for almost 40 years to the day, and was between 1.5 and 2 packs per day.

I got an Itaste VV V3.0, a Smok-tech Aro II, and three 5ml vials of e-juice to start and it cost me $82.28 including tax.

A week later I went back and got another Aro II because I wanted to be able to use two different kinds of e-juice without the hassle of cleaning out a tank. (More about this later.)

I originally thought that I'd want something that tasted as much like my regular analog cigarettes, too. But it took less than a day to disabuse me of that notion.

There is also another little gem called "vaper's tongue" that hits occasionally. When it does, you stop tasting your e-juice, no matter what flavor it is.

I found it helps if you have some sort of sweet flavor -- my current two favorites are "Ivory Bliss" (raspberry, white chocolate and almond) and "Strawberry Orange Ice" -- and then one sort of minty or cinnamon-y flavor. When you stop being able to taste one, you can switch and probably will be able to taste the other again.

Which is why I bought the second Aro. Now I don't have to dump out half a tank of e-juice in order to switch out.

I have tried patches, gum, lozenges, and Chantix and never managed to last more than a couple of days. But when I started vaping, I quit smoking entirely. The e-cig gives me the nicotine replacement, the something to do with my hand/mouth, and even lets me exhale a cloud of "smoke." And with the dessert-type flavors, I even have managed to quit without gaining weight. Who needs candies to suck on when you can suck on an e-cig and have it taste like dessert?

I started with 18mg nicotine juice and -- about 3 weeks later -- have dropped down to 12mg. My intention is to steadily keep dropping the nicotine level until I'm vaping 0 nicotine juice, and then (at least start trying to) eventually give up vaping altogether. Although I will admit that if I just get down to 0 nicotine and keep vaping the rest of my life, I won't object.

Another thing is that you need to start drinking a LOT more water. But that's good for you, too. :)

Good luck!

Nothing worked for me until I got a REO and I was happy. A REO and the 510 atty....get your AW IMR 18650 batts, charger, and juice...you could be done for a long time....I have a friend that was a two pack a day smoker...multiple ecig attempts failed until I gave him my REO Grand for his Birthday...a month later, he told me he quit smoking...the REO and bobas bounty 24mg from https://www.avejuice.com/verify.php and he was able to kick the analogs! Be sure to do your research here in ECF and this helped me a lot...saved a ton of money. Other peoples opinions really did help me avoid the junk. You could spend a lot on subpar crap or really commit to vaping by getting a quality device.

I gotta tell you though, I didn't go into vaping to quit smoking...I just ended up liking the vape more than the gross cigs. The more I vaped, the lousier the cigs tasted and one day...yuk...no more Analogs.

later on and as Vaping evolves you should move onto the kayfun lite plus Rebuildable Tank...what an unbelievable device...you build your own atty, wick and fill her up. Place it on a reliable and safe mod like a Provari and you've got one heckuvah reliable rig.

I've enjoyed my 5 smokefree years and it's turned into a bit of a hobby. Don't regret any of my experiences at all and there are some great folks on this forum.

Good luck and have fun.

Not really true, that it doesn't exist. The Virginia I vape all day every day is so close to the taste of the cigarettes I smoked that on my very first taste, my eyebrows shot up to my hairline in pure surprise, and the realization that NOW I really could quit the smokes.

Everybody told me I wouldn't find it. They were wrong.

First off congratulations in taking the step to kick analogs! I read somewhere nicotine drove us to smoke nasty tasting cigarettes.... I was on a quest to replace my Marlboro smooths, I thought i loved the flavor and my first gas station ego style didn't do it for me. It was my sons birth that gave me the power to quit 20 years of drinking and smoking. I started to take vaping more seriously and headed down to my local vape shop and started to learn more about different units. I to bought a vv 3.0. I still use it today. But..... I recently bought a vamo v5 and what a sweet sweet unit. I paired it with an aspire Nautilus tank and I'm in love! So after that Lol I recommend the vamo! Easy to use and not terribly pricey.

Welcome to ECF. It took me a full two weeks of reading everything on here and asking a lot of questions before I bought my first setup. I smoked 2 packs a day of Marlboro Lights for 46 years and nothing I tried worked for quitting, including Chantix.

My first setup was 2 Vision 1300mah to last a full day (variable voltage - you can adjust the temp of your vaping to your juice and atty) and a couple of Evods. I also picked up a couple of Joye 510 atomizers that I drip juice into to test flavors and I still use them to vape on at home and test flavors.

I also have an MVP2 which is box shaped but the battery will last you at least a day and a half before you have to recharge it. Better vape and can use more types of toppers with this one but you have to get used to the box shape.

The Innokin VV3 is also a good little vv/vw device for a first setup.

You will need 2 batteries/devices if you do not go with a device where you can change out the batteries like the Vamo, SVD, Provari, Reo, etc. Stay away from unregulated devices (mech mods) until you learn about battery safety and ohms law and how all this works.

I started with 18mg nicotine level but within a week I had to bump up to 24mg to not feel jittery. I have not had a cigarette in almost 11 months now and I love vaping and the different flavors.

Here is a link to a thread that has all kinds of links to entry level information for you to read and learn about vaping. Explore this site and please do ask questions. They will get answered quickly. There are quite a few experienced vapers on ECF that watch the New Members Forum to help new people get started and they post often.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...op-reference-shop-new-experienced-vapers.html

Check out this thread for information on what people here list as their top 5 sources for their liquids to use in their PVs.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...discussion/304212-top-5-vendors-e-liquid.html

Remember, have fun with this. You may start vaping and put down the cigarettes pretty quick. Some people vape and still smoke for some time while making the transition, both are normal.

ME TOO I started with the itaste leo and lost the battery the first day so got a itaste vv battery and its working good even though i dont really know how to use it properly but I have not lit a cigarette since monday may 26 using ez vape american tobacco flavour although i dont think that matters once you get over the fact that it doesnt really taste like a real smoke

I was a 37 year smoker when I began vaping as an alternative. Had tried most everything the doctors suggested, patches, gums, pills, everything except smoking cessation therapy. Which I felt to be a waste of time & resources.

What I recommend is a good ego style device with at least a 1000mah battery (mine's a 1100mah) & for the best experience, a bottom coil tank, it can be a larger one as mentioned in earlier posts or a smaller one such as this one with free ship. Here's also a link to a well reviewed battery.

http://www.vaporbeast.com/kanger-evod-clearomizer-tank.html

http://www.vaporbeast.com/ego-v-v2-variable-voltage-1200-mah.html

This is a passthrough type of battery that can be used while charging, as I have. Good ones of this type are hard to find & this one has a 1200mah battery.

I also recommend that you start with at least 2 flavors of e-juice, it took 24mg nicotime to get me off the analogs, 18mg wouldn't satisfy me fully. As to flavors, that depends on what you like. Some local distributors gives samples (mine does), others doesn't. Some also have days where one can go in & sample flavors.

The main thing that I insist upon again, is having the correct nic level for your needs. If you have an adequate amount, you're less apt to go back to analogs.

Good Luck & Welcome to ECF! Should you need us, always feel free to post, we're glad to have you abroad.

All the Best,
Cat

spruce, Welcome to ECF!

Glad to hear that you've kicked the analog habit, keep up the great work! As time passes, you'll get used to your device, how it works & may want to try different flavors.

There's lots of good information for you on this forum as to your device & just ask if you don't find an answer to something.

We're here for you when needed.

All the Best,
Cat
