Recommendations for the new guy?

So I just now decided to take up e-cigs and vaping. Problem is, I don't even know where to begin. It all seems so overwhelming with the different mods and accessories that everyone mentions on here. I started looking at different starter kits, but even those seemed a little confusing. Does anyone have any recommendations as to where to begin this journey? Thanks in advance.

all of the 1st three equipment recommendations are great.

a little extra info

VV (variable voltage) batteries are definitely the way to go. VV will allow you to tailor the voltage to your eliquid for the best flavor, vapor production and throat hit (throat hit is the most important when trying to get away from smoking cigarettes)

now for info on the clearo's or tanks (the device that you put the eliquid in and actually vaporizes it)

the evod or protank are both use a bottom atomizer which will give you a cooler vapor (temperature of vapor) and will wick generally easier (wicking the eliquid to the coil)

the iClear 16 is a dual coil top atomizer which will give you a warmer vapor (due to 1. it is closer to the drip tip (mouth piece) and 2. it is a dual coil (actually has 2 coils and 2 sets of wicks that heat up)) It also has bigger throat hit in my opinion

you may want to think about getting 2 batteries so you don't run out of battery charge at an inconvenient time. The iTaste vv can be used as a pass through (you can continue to use it will it charges but you are tied down to the power source while it is charging - fine in car or at home)

hope this additional info helps

5 months ago I was in your shoes. I will tell you the same thing they told me and that is ego twists at least 1000mah and kanger Evods or protank. I got mine from myvaporstore.com and have always been very happy with them.

Good choice... I also like the Vision Mini Vivi Nova from a maintenance perspective... and welcome to the forum.

ZNinja, howdy, another AR Vaper, nice! WPS!

Welcome! There are a lot of different options now for starting out, and it can be overwhelming. I still think that a good way to start out is with a starter kit which comes with either Ego Twist batteries or Vision spinner batteries, and CE5 clearomizers or similar type tank (such as pro tank, vivi nova, etc - different vendors put different combo's together in their starter kits). I think it is important also to make sure that you have at least 2 batteries and a couple clearomizers/tanks. As far as the e-liquid goes, if you don't have a local B&M shop where you can try out flavors, find someplace where you can order a sample set of flavors, or get several small bottles of several different flavors to try.

The ego kits are good starters, there are a lot of folks still using them at the end of the first year. If you are at all, even the slightest, a gadget person I would suggest a solid vv/vw kit. It will save you some money because you are going to wind up there anyways.

The mvp2 suggestion from 101vape.com is a great price for a solid mod. The innokin vv3 is also a solid device.

I think it depends on how committed you are to leaving the analogs behind. If you are still on the fence, you probably don't want to shell $300 for a Provari. The 3 PVs (personal vaporizers) I'd recommend for a beginner are the eGo Twist, Innokin iTaste VV, Innokin iTaste MVP 2 and the Vamo 3. Each of these support the two most popular tank connections (510 and eGo-threaded). The eGo Twist supports variable voltage. The iTaste VV, iTaste MVP 2 and Vamo 3 all add digital variable voltage, variable wattage and a way to check the Ohms for the cartomizer or atomizer you have screwed onto the device. Each of these options are fairly inexpensive and should only set you back between $30-$70, including batteries (all except for the Vamo 3 have built-in batteries) and charger.

As for tanks, I'd recommend eVod tanks for beginners. They are cheap, easy to use (ego-threaded) and perform great. Some people will swear by the Protank, but I actually still prefer eVod tanks over anything else. You can find one of these for about $6. I'd recommend you pick up 2-3 of these initially, just so you can experiment between juices without having to drain a tank and switch the bottom coil head too frequently.

As for eJuice, that is a bit more subjective. The good quality vendors I like are Hurricane Vapors, Halo eCigs, Alien Visions eJuice, and Vapor Craze. I would recommend ordering a sample pack from a few vendors just to see what you like. You may also want to check out your local brick and morter store so you can sample some of the juices they have on-hand. Sometimes these shops offer some of the popular juices you can find online, and sometimes they make their own.

Above all, what you need is moral support. If you have a friend that is a smoker, it would be a good idea to try to make the switch together to share experiences and give each other that support. To stick with this, you have to like to tinker with stuff. The experience can be great, but it can be frustrating as hell. It is good to have someone to talk to so you don't run off and buy a cigarette the first time you get stuck.

Okay, so I think I've decided on the MVP2 kit for myself and the iTaste VV3 kit for my girlfriend. I will be purchasing them within the next couple of days. Any recommendations for further accessories I may want/need for the initial vaping?

Congrats. I own the MVP 2 and really like it cuz of the long battery life. I'd suggest also getting a 510 atomizer...
Atomizer/ Atty- an element in a metal tube with no stuffing or wicks on to which 3-4 drops of juice is dripped- usually used for testing new juices because Attys are easy to clean. When finished testing a new juice simply burn off the remaining juice.
There are 2 types of attys- one with just an element and the other with a metal bridge/ mesh over top of the element- many remove this bridge as it quickly gets gunked/ plugged up with juice. After awhile the atty needs to be cleaned by soaking in alcohol.
Best of Luck.
