I think it depends on how committed you are to leaving the analogs behind. If you are still on the fence, you probably don't want to shell $300 for a Provari. The 3 PVs (personal vaporizers) I'd recommend for a beginner are the eGo Twist, Innokin iTaste VV, Innokin iTaste MVP 2 and the Vamo 3. Each of these support the two most popular tank connections (510 and eGo-threaded). The eGo Twist supports variable voltage. The iTaste VV, iTaste MVP 2 and Vamo 3 all add digital variable voltage, variable wattage and a way to check the Ohms for the cartomizer or atomizer you have screwed onto the device. Each of these options are fairly inexpensive and should only set you back between $30-$70, including batteries (all except for the Vamo 3 have built-in batteries) and charger.
As for tanks, I'd recommend eVod tanks for beginners. They are cheap, easy to use (ego-threaded) and perform great. Some people will swear by the Protank, but I actually still prefer eVod tanks over anything else. You can find one of these for about $6. I'd recommend you pick up 2-3 of these initially, just so you can experiment between juices without having to drain a tank and switch the bottom coil head too frequently.
As for eJuice, that is a bit more subjective. The good quality vendors I like are Hurricane Vapors, Halo eCigs, Alien Visions eJuice, and Vapor Craze. I would recommend ordering a sample pack from a few vendors just to see what you like. You may also want to check out your local brick and morter store so you can sample some of the juices they have on-hand. Sometimes these shops offer some of the popular juices you can find online, and sometimes they make their own.
Above all, what you need is moral support. If you have a friend that is a smoker, it would be a good idea to try to make the switch together to share experiences and give each other that support. To stick with this, you have to like to tinker with stuff. The experience can be great, but it can be frustrating as hell. It is good to have someone to talk to so you don't run off and buy a cigarette the first time you get stuck.
