My AW LB-501 scale came with the AC adapter and two calibration weights. If you use the AC adapter it doesn't time out and cut off. Time out only occurs to save batteries.

Repeatable measurement is a good thing any time you are weighing. For $27 the LB-501 seems like a good deal to me. It's probably more accurate than counting drops and pouring from a bottle into a beaker and then into the mix bottle. That, and you don't have to wash out everything you used. It all goes straight into the mixing bottle on the scale and from there to the shelf it will be stored on to vape from.

Between ingredients, I either press tare or power-on, depending on if the scale has shut itself down or not, but it's both just a single press and the old value of previous ingredient isn't needed anymore as is a finished object so why keep telling me whatever ingredient last added in grams... Might as well shut down to save power as I don't need the value anymore... The scale knows nothing happens, hence it shuts down to save power/batteries...

I agree, but having an AC adapter is a plus. Batteries will eventually die or leak electrolyte.

As long as the scale is smart enough to inhibit shut down in the middle of a pour, all is well. Once the ingredient is added you start at zero on the next one anyway.

Sure, I of course agree also that an AC adapter in contrary is a useful thing indeed :)

I've never seen a scale with under 30 secs shutdown, and mine primary scale for 10 bucks has 60, and so even a 30 sec one will never shut down during pouring, how could it... It's not 30 sec to add an ingredient, but 30 sec between each single drop(s) added during the pour of the ingredient... Not directed at you Dave, sorry :) Each time the display changes/updates(so every quart to half sec roughly during a pour), the counter is reset and you have a new 30 sec min headroom).

I spend a lot of time in the lab and I often get interrupted. When I answer the phone and then turn back to my work I like it to still read where I left off. Not because I stop in the middle of a pour but rather to know where I was at within the recipe.

The batteries in these things last FOREVER! Even if they didn't, it would be worth it not to have a cord running across the table getting in the way and collecting spilled juice etc. No cord is just one less thing to worry about or have to clean.

I like as little lag time as possible

I'm getting old so big read out numbers are a good thing.

So again I say my favorite in the price range so far (and I have tried a few) is the SAE 400D now available a little cheaper at $21.98 500g x 0.01g High Precision Digital Scale SF-400D2 Counting +USB Wall Adapter US

OK, that makes sense of course, though personally I feel the method of placing each already used ingredient e.g. to the right and the others to the left, or whatever, is doing the same job, also it gets tidier so you know that the bottles on the left is the ones left instead of having a bunch, used and unused standing next to eachother... Again, it's not bad with power-off, it's fine, but personally I just feel people either don't understand it(not you :) ), or make it's importance way over the top imho...

I get interrupted too, and go get other things i've forgot, but when I come back, I can see on the placement of all the ingredients where i'm left...

And yes, my two batteries that came with my scale also still is going strong over a year later... Something that auto-shutdown also slightly helps with ;)

Btw, I'm glad you recommended the SF-400D2 instead of the always mentioned LB-501, because I gave up on finding that for a decent price with shipping/customs, so maybe I have better luck with this other one, as I only have looked very briefly on that. Also that you state it updates faster which also to me is very important and which my cheap little scale also excels at already... I don't really need another scale, but if I can get a better one then I wouldn't mind of course and then I would also get the calibrations for it as I havent bothered doing that for my cheap one...

Yea, but what about the bottle in your hand? Did you add it yet or were about to add it when the phone rang. :p

Well, you got me there then ;) Though normally I would remember, and besides, I would finish the ingredient, place bottle to the right and take the phone. Also, it's like when on the bathroom; I do my business first and don't run out in the middle to answer it. I would of course not finish the whole recipe first, before taking the call, but I would finish the ingredient I was in the process off first, for sure.

I see your point, though :)

THAT... is what voice mail is for! When you call me you better leave a message that makes me want to call you back! I refuse to be ruled by a machine (of course, if it is for your business, then that is a whole other matter).

That's when you assume that you did and continue on. If it's crap when you vape it, you add stuff until it's tolerable (or throw it out and start over). It's the beauty factor of small batches.
