The only 'friend requests' I find problematic is when they appear from nowhere, from someone I've had zero communication with and don't know from Adam.
I once created a Facebook (or was it MySpace?) account and was hit with a half dozen such requests from people who obviously just wanted to increase
their "friends" count. I abandoned that account due to the absurdity of that. And, that is not a problem on ECF in my experience.

Yea, I created a Facebook page to get some Tide coupons, because I had to 'like' Tide to get the coupons. I got a bunch of friend requests from people I didn't know. Haven't been back since because it sorta scared me. I also didn't get the Tide coupons.

on FB any one sends friend request just to hit a link,(you are usually forced to do that if you are not an experienced internet user ) it is not the same at ECF

That's exactly right. I remember that also. It is a nice gesture. Imagine if new people wanted to be friends with a couple people and were rejected. They wouldn't even try anymore. It's just not nice IMO. I personally would rather be thought of and remembered as nice than not.

This isn't just a social board, it's also a support board. I think people are sometimes friended if they help someone out, or answer questions, help someone select a juice, a pv, post links for them, etc. I know how much it meant to me when I first started. This whole thing is new to a lot of people, and important to them.

Just take for the nice gesture that it probably is.

i have never rejected a friendship , even when they come from unknown ones , i will alway have the option to break that friendship is they become a PITA but it has never happened, most people send a friend request as a thanks
