It all has to do with the end length of wire used.
There are a few steam engine calculaters and a android app(vapors toolbox) that could help you.

Love that app its pretty acurate till you hit around .3-.4ohms but then its still really close, just once you get down that low leg length and other small stuff makes a lot more noticable difference. Remember to always check your build with an ohm meter after it will also let you know if you have a short and what not

Yes, bigger coil ID = more wire per wrap.

But also, bigger coil ID = more juice to the coil..

It's that balancing act of providing the right amount of juice @ your rez while also managing wire mass (heat up time) and airflow.

You may luck into it but a good build balances build resistance, coil saturation, wire mass & airflow. They're all equally important.
