Hello all :)

Where to begin? I was a smoker when my now husband and I started dating and I quit for him. After a few years, I began smoking socially and that of course spiraled into a full habit again; when hubby put up a fuss I gritted my teeth and managed to quit a second time. A few years later, guess what? Yeah, I picked it up again. Been smoking about 10-14 cigarettes a day for 3 years this time. Older now, and a bit more determined, I decided I'm not quitting this time unless *I* want to. My husband relented, I don't do it around him and he keeps his quips minimal. But we have kids who I also hide it from and so vaping has become a Godsend to this closet smoker always terrified of the smell left on my clothes and in my hair!!!

How things are now: I vape at home and only sneak out for a real cigarette if it's convenient, and smoke at work as it's socially acceptable for me to do so with co-workers. I haven't fully committed to vaping yet, I'm being stubborn and am unwilling to let go of the smokes for good - perhaps because I've already quit twice now and not for myself.

I've trolled this forum some and see others are quite sophisticated with their e-cigs - I merely bought the greensmoke starter kit and my only experience has been with this so far. I think I've been using it about...5 months? It's rather costly though, eh? For my personal satisfaction, I like that it produces a lot of vapor, I can even blow "smoke" rings with it! But when I'm somewhere public and I just need a few quick drags, the vapor is too conspicuous and then I need to find a bathroom or something to hide in again.

Anyway, that's my story, a lot of sneaking off. Not pleased with the situation, but I am very happy for the help and relief the e-cig has provided for stubborn me!

Agreed with lol on this one. You should just be happy for all the cigarettes you haven't smoked and continue not to smoke. I'm extremely, extremely stubborn too so I totally get you. I have five e-cigs, consider myself quite savvy now (going on six months) in large part thanks to this forum and I still have an analog now and again. It is what it is, you know? I haven't completely committed to dropping them all together myself, either, but again as lol said... I know when you commit it will happen like that. I committed to not smoking daily anymore, and the e-cig(s) made it enjoyable rather than miserable. So, do what you need to do until you decide it's enough and until that happens, once again, you should be proud for every single cigarette you don't have rather than frustrated about the ones you do :)

I never started vaping to quit. I started because my mother had to quit and I'm around her. When I started vaping and realized it was actually possible I could quit, I really embraced the idea.

I just couldn't stand it for one more day that people thought I stunk. It bother me tremendously. Especially the "ew, I smell cigarettes" and people would crinkle up their nose like someone stepped in dog s*it. I thought no one knew I smoked until I stopped and realize you can smell a smoker a mile away.

I couldn't stand how limiting smoking was. How you can't go certain places or stay in certain hotels or be around some people because they don't smoke and you do. We went on vacation and I had to stand outside the house like some kind of loser because I smoked.

Once you committ to stopping it's very freeing. I'm not saying everyone can or should stop. I'm a battery charge away from being a smoker myself. But I am so happy that I stopped.

It didn't happen overnight and I didn't try to make it happen overnight. As time went on I found I enjoyed vaping more than smoking. I don't miss smoking or any part of smoking at all.

swedishfish, I think I'm going to print your post and hang it on the wall over my PC. Very liberating words you've written there.

I'm almost embarrassed to post this- My sister was recently in the hospital and I went to visit her. Her husband was there and her son were both visiting, all smokers. I could actually smell the cigarettes on them when I got to the door. I just felt really, really bad for them. I'd never in a billion, zilion years say anything and it just hit me that's what I smelled like too and all the gallons of Febreeze I used to spray on myself didn't help one iota. She told me the doctor asked her if she smoked. Well, no kidding.

Yes, there are worse smells in the world than cigarettes. I can think of about 100 off the top of my head. No, you aren't a bad person or a terrible person or a dirty person if you smell like cigs. As a matter of fact I usually like smokers better than non-smokers anyway. But I just didn't want it to be me that was smelling like that anymore. I just got tired of it.

Vaping is the ONLY thing that allowed me to quit smoking cigarette completely.
Is it possible that your not getting enough nicotine with juice?
I was able to drop right down to a couple cigs a day......from a pak a day smoker. After i ran out of the tobacco i had onhand, haven't looked back.
Might i suggest a higher nicotine liquid if your not getting that satified feeling. :) And good luck to you.

+1 from me. This is exactly how I am - I never set out to quit smoking getting involved with e-cigs, I was actually in the market to try to suppliment the cost of traditional cigarettes - maybe cut back a little. All pros and no cons that I've expierienced so far..

I smell people who smoke cigarettes now. I never did before. My hands smell like soap after I've washed them 3 hours ago. I like that. And I don't crave cigarettes anymore. I like that too.

It's silly to think there is something out there that will help you quit smoking, even if you never really wanted to in the first place.

Cheers!

Good luck to you and yours. Welcome to the forum.

I'm completely with swedishfish on the smell and it was the major factor for me in giving up analogs.

I had been a ppd+ smoker for over 25 years and for almost that entire time friends, partners, and family have been not so subtly urging me to quit. I tried many times for other peoples sake but never for myself and I failed every time. Even quit for 9 months once but went right back to a ppd in the blink of an eye. I watched two grandmothers, my mother and MIL all die from cancer and still had no desire to quit.

While I have lived in Belize for 8 years now I still maintain residence in NJ at my fathers. The problem was I couldn't keep anything of mine in the house because my father couldn't stand the smell on my clothes. This year I had to come to NJ for work in Jan. and it was no fun not only having to go outside in sub-freezing temps for a smoke but getting my jackets and clothes out of a cold garage got old real fast. I was also starting to feel short of breath at times when running up and down the stairs.

Short story long, on my last trip up 4 weeks ago I tried an e-cig at the mall, decided it was close enough and haven't touched an analog since.

It was all a matter of having the personal motivation and an acceptable alternative to cigs. When you have the same motivation that comes from within it will work for you as well.

Now I can get to the fun part of experimenting with all of the new toys out there available to me. :vapor:

Totally agree with everyone else in the thread not to worry about a few analogs now and then, your already doing much better than you were before.

as far as costs go even just using the greensmoke kit you should be saving some money over smoking cigs but if you want a lower cost option I would recommend getting some juice and filling the cartomizers yourself if you are not already, this will save you a large amount just on being able to use the cartos more than once.

beyond that the greensmoke kit is an E9 fitting(I think) and there are not as many components available for that threading and they tend to be a bit more expensive so you may want to consider getting something with the more standard 510 threads like a riva or ego which would also provide a longer battery life and will likely end up being cheaper in the long run(riva kits only cost about 30-40 dollars from the right vendors)
