I know that when i was waiting for my Chalice, i looked at every pic of coil setups i could find. There just were not enough of em. I'm guessin that Ratman is going thru the same state of jonesin' that I was for images. I also wanted to include a little image of how the coil legs need to orient to make the insertion easy - you will see it on the allen wrench. This Buds for you Ratman...

Great photos super x. I have my first rba, a torched ERA, coming next week so I am busy looking at photos of coil and wick setups. Yours and Hildecats set ups are what I am going to try first.

Ellen, you will find that the era is very easy to coil and wick. Have you practiced making a coil yet? I started by grabbing roughly a 3" piece of 30 ga kanthal and putting one end in a roach clip (that's what they used to call alligator clips right?) and heating up the wire with a little section at a time with a bic until it glows orange. Then run under faucet. I do this 3 times, then wrap it around a small screwdriver. Then scrunch it together. Once your era gets there you can stick that bad boy in!

You will like the rolled cotton wick I'm sure. No taste and pretty safe health wise I guess?

You will love your RBA!

I tried the vertical coil setup but had some troble with wick obstructing the feeding hole and avoid the liquid to go back in the bottle..resulting some gorgling . I returned to classic diagonal setup wich is the best for me.

I at the moment don't have a pic of it but with the chalice if you make your coils just as they are and stand them on end you can stick wick material into the juice feed hole and it works great. Not that the chalice doesn't in the first place :)

I tried that first. I found that it vapes well but ultimately obstructs the juice port and it can flood because of that. That diagonal setup is great because the coil is directly over the port so it gets wet when you squonk, the wick stays wet when ya tip it to hit and the excess goes right down the port. Unbelievably error proof.

I wish I had thought ahead and ordered some wire first. I have some 32 ga coming with the ERA, but I need to order some 30ga as Indy was out of stock on it when I placed my order. I wish there was a local shop where I could buy some supplies because the shipping from different vendors really starts to add up. I think I am just going to look on ebay and buy enough to last me forever as it will probably be cheaper in the long run.

I will post up some pics as soon as I build my first coil. A big thanks to you and everyone else here for your help!!

I went to a local b&m and bought 3 feet if 32 ga to practice. It was rape- like $3 a foot but worth it because I learned before the RBA arrived. You are gonna do fine.

Appreciate it Buddy. I suspected from our conversation that it would pretty similar to the A7 set up, at least that is the same way I used to set mine up. The pictures confirm and clarify it. I am lucky not only to have found one but to have my very own Chalice guru just a few miles away. JCOkie was one of the first to get a Chalice and has been a wealth of knowledge and friendship

Jan has definitely offered some invaluable advise. She knows her stuff and ain't afraid to share it. You are lucky having her in close proximity! With ECF, it feels like she lives a couple if blocks away from me too - except she doesn't have to tolerate my cr125 and my sons 80 ripping up and down her powerlines.

Here in my house, as long as I'm buyin and wrenching, were ridin red my brotha! I do have a killer Yamaha Gmax golf cart, but that's only cause Honda doesn't make em. I respect the blue bikes though. Had a 2003 yz250F for about a week but just couldn't get used to that blue spot in my garage where my 400ex used to sit. So I went back to two smokes and picked up this 2001 (that some good ol boys had out in a barn up here) and restored it to its current state of awesomeness.
Would like a crf250 though.

LoL, my Yammerhammer days go back to when the YZ's were yellow and black! I did have one CR tho. A left for dead '84 CR250 that I did a frame up restoration on. Was a lot of fun. I miss my offroad days but the knees and back just couldn't handle it anymore. I still love the sound and smell of a 2 stroke tho.

My last offroader was a 99 Banshee. I did a restoration on it but sold it last year. No one to ride with around here. Took a lot of pics of it and posted on a banshee forum. I could find a link to it if you wanted to see it though.

Rob, love to see em. Had some friends with banshees - they were a blast in the south Florida sugar sand!

My riding has tapered off lately in both time and availability. I actually just started again, this time in clay rather than sand. I miss the sand!

I agree that there is something special about two smokes. That's all I ever ride. Would prefer a 250f now but not in current budget. Especially with thing like this coming in the mail...yeah baby! #2 and final...

OK, Just received a brand new Chalice II. Notice the titanium posts (rather than what appears to be brass in the original chalice). The center post also looks like the same material, no brass in this one. The screws like others have said, are different, in that there is no threads in the posts, the screw threads bite the wire. It is a bit different, but it is no problem.
Here is a breif sequence of photos depicting how I coiled it. Step 1 was to remove screws and boil in dawn for about 10 minutes just to be sure it was totally clean, then rinse. This coil metered at 1.41 ohms and is constructed with Kanthal A1:

Here is a wick constructed of rolled cotton. I layed it on top of the ohm meter for a visual reference to size. The sequence shows raw, then insterted, then trimmed, than pushed into the final position, then moistened with a squonk. You will also see in the last pic, the different aesthetic of the two chalices. The II came with a metal matching DT. I dont see myself using it.
