I know what your saying but the top part could have a bend also to close that opening so only the bottom would have an opening and it would hardly be seen. I really think you should try making a door with a little offset in the front of that 1/4" just a simple L bend in a piece of nice alloy would work really nice as a door. I was looking at mine back when Technault did his and was thinking about doing this. If you have a brake and can bend metal this would be a simple thing to do with a piece of metal, it would not only work but look good too, its up to you of course, just something I was thinking about a while back

I think that he dremeled some of the back of the box and some of the door, without going all the way through.

When I start milling it, i will try that too, if it lacks little to close the door, try a little milling at the door, and paste here if necessary only a very thin panel, not to be too fragile.

Thanks for the idea: D

Im not talking about a concave shaped door, just making a bend in a new piece of alloy for a door that would have an L bend in it on the sides so the face of the door came up and out that 1/4" needed to fit the batt. This way it would look almost exactly the same as it does now.

Really, would not be too much to ask, if you could design your idea on paper, and give me a screenshot, so I can understand your idea.

would be very grateful.

Thank you.

The way that your design shows you'd be milling out the back.....after that is complete would the battery protrude out of the back? If not the maybe....and this is just a suggestion....take a piece of aluminum about 1/4" wider than the hole you milled out and epoxy it to the mod. Then all you would have is a small patch on the back that would look somewhat uniformed and the rest of the mod would stay the same. Maybe????

yes, there are many possibilities ..... I'm pretty sure that if the hole in the back to get well done and perfect, and well painted, even open, seeing if the red line of the battery would not look bad, even with nothing to cover.

But first I want to see the @mwa102464 design idea in a screenshot.

Oh no, I left my baby in the hands of a rude mechanical milling truck parts.

The good news, is that it is not necessary, milling the outside back of Reo, only the inside battery storage and the door.

If I have courage, then will show the result.8-o

Please cross your fingers with me. :nun:

Please keep up appraised on this modification. You could call it a modded mod??

OK, so I played hookey today too.

Seriously now, the Reo Mini is the work of Genius, but like most things, everything can be improved and i think you've hit on something here.

My cnc's and Bridgeports are at your disposal my friend. I like the idea of a new aluminum door with "L" shaped extensions so to speak to make up for the required belly.

God Bless

Im no architect only a builder but here is what I was thinking for the door, as you see there would be a 1/4" or however much of an offset you would need for the door to stick out so the Batt could stick out of the front more, this way the door would just be bumped out to cover that little bit the door sticks out, you could make a bend at the top to cover the top and bottom space or just at the top so the door only slid down, either way you can make this work though, and the door would slide up or down to be remove and not see a gap at the top or bottom

Thx mwa1024.....the problem I see in your idea is as follows,

- The problem is the tops, which Will be more difficult to close, and the question of passage of the slot extra thickness of the battery, as you think to solve this.

Also do not forget that all the work couldn't be done only at the door, because that way the bottle will be too deep, the largest milling must be done inside the REO.

to understand what I mean, see the outline of what I do ..... despite using the source port, I can later buy new one if you want.

Battery pot passage will be all milling in source port, at the bottom to keep the magnet on top, this port will then be placed top to bottom.

To dont have extra pressing i have to sand this piece.

to avoid extra pressure on the button, I had to chop this one little piece, and open a little more the opening, for the battery contact closer to the firing pin ..... because 18490 does not come as much as 14500.

awesome mod to a mod

i love the size of the mini, but i kinda hate the 14500 batteries.. so i've been contemplating on getting a grand... but i want the mini to use when i'm out and about and on campus. being able to put a 18490 in a mini would solve everything for me ;p nice work

Reo Mini is a piece of art......but The holy grail of PV, it would be a REO mini Aluminum AW 18690, 3ml bootle, with the thickness of a GRAND and a PROVARI chip\display inside.

WoW ... Rob do this, please.:D

I dont see the room for all the electronics in the current Box for that to work ! it's a good thought though and could be done with a bigger box for sure.

As for the door design I have shown the door would only open by sliding it upward and the 2 magnets would stay up top to hold the door, it would work there is no doubt in my mind. I do see what your talking about as far as the Batt goes Pack21 but I have an idea of how to make the contact points work as well, no need to go there though because your going to roll with it your way and thats cool go for it, nice PM'ing with you
