I hope this is posted in the correct forum.

I would like to see the New Members forum split into two sections: one for very new vapers with basic questions, and the other for experienced vapers seeking more advanced information.

Often experienced vapers either haven't passed the 15 post mark or post in the New Members forum since it gets faster responses. I think their threads confuse new vapers more than they already are. For example, we have beginners reading threads about what gauge Kanthal to use, forming the impression that they have to start wrapping coils immediately.

My mission is to make vaping as easy and accessible as possible for any person who wants to stop smoking. Many of our members join as a last result when prior attempts to give up tobacco have failed. They are often skeptical that the method will work, unwilling to make a major financial investment in something that might not succeed, and easily intimated by equipment they feel is too complex for them master. Certainly New Members should be encouraged to review the more advance section to determine their comfort level, but I don't want to scare anyone away.

Difficult...

I agree that TMI is offputting to the absolute newcomer. Then again, some people new to ECF have been vaping for a long time.

It would be nice if we could avoid giving the impression to complete newbs that this is an elite pastime where you have to know the slang and own certain products or you might as well forget it. To me that is a disaster. It's always been a bit like that, but lately it does seem worse. In the past, I used to think that there was probably a certain attraction in coming to a new community and lifestyle, and finding you had to learn some new stuff in order to understand what was happening. If it isn't like that, maybe there is no value in the new experience, because there is nothing new. But there is a line to be drawn between a gentle introduction to a new community and a full-on tech assault with incomprehensible hardware and language. It seems to me that we may have crossed that line in NM now. It shouldn't be a mental assault course and especially not for complete beginners.

Maybe we need a subforum of New Members where all RBA and sub-ohm posts have to go. The NM board is probably the worst place imaginable for those - but some experienced vapers have to start in NM as they have no posts on ECF.

So perhaps you are right: we need 2 NM boards - one for newbs, one for experienced vapers new to ECF (or lurkers new to posting here). That should go down well with the Admin team, as currently there is a massive pruning exercise going on to try and cut some weight that has built up over the years. Hah!

So, you're saying we need to split NM's into "New Members who are insulted that they need to post here anyway." and "Vaping Virgins." Or something like that.

Nah. I kinda like the chaos of the NM forum just the way it is. Perhaps the only thing that might help is a better explanation of what the New Members Forum is and why it's there. For whatever reason that point seems to be lost on a lot of people as to why they have to post there. Splitting them into two different groups - rather, expecting them to split themselves into two separate groups - I don't see how that will help.

Then you have the vaping newbie oxymoron: "I just bought a fake of a clone mech. I don't know what battery I have. I've only been vaping a week. Can you tell me how to build a 0.2 ohm coil?" Which category should they be expected to plonk themselves into?
