replacing atomizers - when do you know?

Half-hearted searching revealed little about the actual symptoms of atomizer death. Is overheating on the list of symptoms?

I was vaping away noticing a marked drop in flavor and quite a bit of scratchiness in my throat, akin to a dry cart, but LO! The cart be filled!

Changed to a new atty, and after a few minutes of break-in I'm back to being happy.

So my question: when do you all decide to retire atomizers? I'm wondering if there's more I can be looking for than awful flavor.

This is a very good question BTW. I've often wondered the same thing. I have one atty in my passthru that see a lot of use, one in my reg.510 and one that my gf uses occasionally. All three have been working now for a month! I have like four spares just sitting here and I'm afraid to open and use them if not needed. Other than outright failure, what do you look for? My Ohm meter is in storage or I'd use it too.

overheating is just a sign to give the atty a rest till it cools down.
NO vapor (with liquid and charged battery) is a sign of a dead atty
the best rule of thumb is once you are not satisfied with the performance and eliminated all operator error.... trash it

some trash excessively like every week
and others the other extreme with months between changes

alot of factors come into play
but amount of use and proper care are big in determining the live of your atty

one more thing is to try dripping a couple of drops right in the center of the atty

carts are sometimes unreliable and tend to not keep the atty wet

At that point, I break down a clean it. Usually works close to new again. I hate having to break it in again, but hey, I'd have to do it to a new one. I rotate several attys so I rarely have to get a new one out.

Trying to hoard those babies.

Use a multimeter (under $5 at Harbor Freight), or go with the KR808D-1. After 8 months with a 901, I don't miss atty issues since I switched to 808, although I still use my multimeter.

...and your cleaning consists of?

I have 2 soaking in PGA 75%. 1 Menthol overdose to a burnt taste, 1 used for 2 months and now burnt/raspy/harsh.

Seeking advice. I had a 510 and a burning taste. I soaked in PGA 75% for 1 dayish and pulled out the fibers near the bridge, and it worked fine... soaking again now.

Should I alcohol burn, dry burn, or what?!?!?!?!?
