Reynolds reports American Snuff volume increases of 7.3% for 2011 and 6.1% for 4Q11, double-digit volume increases for Camel Snus, cigarette volume declines of 5.1% for 2011 and 7.4% for 4Q11.

Reynolds also reported an estimated industry wide record sales of about 1.28 billion cans of moist snuff in the US in 2011, which represents more than a 50% increase from the 800 million cans sold in 2002.

Along with the apparent triple-digit volume increases for e-cigarette products during the past five years, tobacco harm reduction is on a roll in the US (even though the FDA, CDC, NCI and other health agencies still refuse to acknowledge its existance).

Another criticially important fact that health agencies and anti tobacco groups in the US don't want the public to know is that annual US per capita cigarette consumption has declined from 145 packs in 1975 to 58.8 packs in 2008, to just 46.7 packs in 2011 (a 67% decline since 1975, and a 20% decline since 2008).

Instead, health agencies and anti tobacco groups (that only want to promote bad news about all things tobacco) have repeatedly complained that the US cigarette smoking rate (i.e. the percentage of people who admit to smoking at least one cigarette in the past month) has barely declined during the past five years.
