Ok so a few days ago I posted about ordering some Kanthal and due to me not paying close attention I ended up with the ribbon type. After my post I figured no big deal. Its still usable. Might have even stumbled onto something cool.

So a few hours ago I decide to start tinkering with this stuff. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Every coil comes out at .8 ohms. Tried everything I could think of. I only have vv/vw devices. If I had a mechanical that'd probably be a great coil.

Also, what does it mean when I fire a coil and it drops in ohms from say 1.7 to .8 and stays there?

Thanks in advance guys. Only have a little non ribbon wire left lol.

Make sure the wire is not touching the post on the way up the wick. I drop a tank filler needle tip or an Allen wrench in the wick. Then when the connections are tight, I take a micro screw driver and pry the wire away from the post. Take it easy on that step (I use the rolling paper method). Also with ribbon wire it can be tricky to get a tight connection due to the shape. Make sure its flat like a washer.

The ribbon is .8. Unfortunately I don't have any pics. I gave up and threw on a regular coil.

Ribbon takes more wraps? To get higher ohm? I don't know where I'd fit that lol. Here's a picture of my 3/4 wrap. Not even sure what gauge wire it is. Any tips or anything that sticks out?

Looks like you have good solid connections. Thats a agat2? If so it has a pretty small wick hole, so per wrap you get less resistance. I would try two more wraps. I use the most easy method to wrapping a coil I know of. The chances of a short are pretty much zero. Ive had to bump a coil with ribbon on, like once or twice just after set up and thats it. After that it just goes. Here is part of a tutorial I made up last year. You can skip ahead to the 2 minute mark. This should stop any shorts. Should I consider opening the hole up? Obviously that'd allow me to use wider wicks. Would the wider wicks give me better wicking? I haven't had an issue with wicking so far but why not? I'm more interested in being able to get higher ohms in the same amount of space. That wick I showed didn't use the ribbon wire. That's what I'm having the most trouble with.

5.76Ohms per Foot is the resistance on .8 . So you get 0.48 Ohms per inch of ribbon used minus the lost resistance for the leg hookups. So you'll need a good 3 inches to get a working coil on a smart mod.

I have .4mm ribbon which is .9 Ohms per inch so if I want to put dual coils in my RDA I have to use 2 4 inch strips of ribbon which is alot of coil. Had I thought about it properly or known how big an RDA was before ordering the wire I would have got round kanthal lol

I had heard of someone else drilling it out with no issues but I had issues. I tried to drill one of mine by a half size (SAE vs Metric). I killed the atomizer cause the wick hole was to close to the center + pin channel and the drill ate the threads. The smaller wick hole is one thing they changed from the first agat. Why, I dont know, but it was a huge mistake. I sold my V1 to get a V2 and regret it. But to be honest if you are using it at 1.5 ohms or higher it should be fine as is. I have one at 1.47 and it can not keep up if I chain vape.

I would just get a diff atty. One that can take anything you want to vape it at. hate to say it cause you might want to spend less money, but IMO the DID is boss. Cheap in comparison to the quality. Readily available and has never let me down. You can find them in the classifieds for $80-$100. Might sound like a lot but for what it is, its well worth it. I bought one of the first batches to come out and still stand behind them. I sold my first one then had to buy another one.

One other thing to consider is the RDA. I am starting to make the switch and many other Genesis users have as well. They work very well with cotton if you have good air flow. That is, if your after vapor production. I have the IgoL and its just as good as the DID IMO if not better. I am also waiting on the Trident, Helio, and NIMBUS2 clones from fast tech. Total was under $30 shipped. I might be selling my Caravela and DID to go back to VV/VW when its said and done, cause if I can double my vapor production with dual wicks on a cheap atty its going to put the Genesis to shame. Only time will tell.

Here is something you can watch. Sorry if I am steering you in the wrong direction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OTsgNOASnw
