A true trailblazer, took her addictions public, then did something about it! Too bad she wasn't the Prez, then, I believe a lot less boys would have died in Viet Nam if she was.
True! ....and this was way before going to rehab and going public with it became almost fashionable; at the time it was horribly shameful and something to be kept secret, even by people out of the public eye. She changed a lot of lives.
She was trailblazer Ms. Plantlvr... Before her, most family's would dance around a members addiction, or treat them like less of a person because of it, etc. She help make admitting the fact you have an issue a good thing, and seeking help for it the right thing to do... And we can never forget, she was friends with Marge Simpson (Pres. Ford being best friends with Homer).
When faced with the choice of voting for either Gerald Ford or Jimmy Carter, I took the step of writing in Betty Ford for President. I thought that she would have made a very good President, and I am saddened that my vote may have been the only one she got that election day.
