Been using a Riva 510 from Liberty Flights for a while now, and I'm kind of disappointed in a couple aspects. The battery life is great, and vapor production with VG ejuice is great, but flavor, throat hit, and heat are all VERY lacking... I've tried several different ejuices, everything from 100% PG to 100% VG, with a 70/30 PG/VG blend in there as well, and although the flavor and vapor varies from juice to juice, I still get literally no heat and no throathit. Am I doing something wrong? I'm using standard 510 atty's and cartridges; should I try cartomizers or maybe a LR 510 atty? Or would you recommend another brand/model? I picked up a cheap disposable ecig from a tobacco shop, its called the "No. 7" and it is a perfect balance of heat, throathit, flavor, and vapor. Kind of disappointing that the Riva I paid 5 times as much for doesn't perform as well... :(

Yes what you are doing wrong is standard 510 attys and VG juice

What makes a Riva or Ego hit hotter than 510's is their ability to use low resistance atomizers and cartos. LR attys and cartos draw more power and run hotter. Heat increases TH.

VG dulls flavor as well as nicotine's TH & irritation

how much nic do you have? Nicotine is what TH comes from, and heat increases it, high PG juices let it through best

LR would increase the throat hit and heat but many people say that they may also reduce the life of your battery. I know folks that use LR with no problem at 3.7V but others that will not do it because of the risk of the damage to your battery. If you are in a position to do it you may want to look into getting a 5V Pass Through or a Variable Voltage Mod would would also increase TH and heat. Good luck.

He has a Riva, not a slim 510 - Riva can use LR attys. Mine came with LR attys and is the least expensive kit I own.

dormouse..unfortunately, manufacturers don't tell you the LR anything can cause the MOSFET switches in the batteries to prematurely fail. Manufacturers are only making what is demanded to make their money. LR's are meant to run on a true 3.7v device like the puresmoker icon for an example. Proprietary batteries like the riva and ego aren't designed to withstand the heat and pull of power they need to run at full funtion. LR's strain proprietary batteries therefore reducing their lifespan.

So get LR attys, eh? Okay, I'll try that. And for the record I use 24mg strength juice, so that can't be the issue; I got better TH and heat out of an 808 rebrand I bought way overpriced at a mall. -.- It'll be a while before I can order some LRs, unfortunately.

And my atty's have never made any heat, ever. Was my first thought when I got the kit, compared to the 808 and even the Blu e-cigs (which are a variant of a 510, as far as I can tell, since the Blu cartomizers fit perfectly on my Riva, although I haven't used them for fear of something blowing up, haha.)

I'm considering getting a slim pv for out and about use; everyone seems to think highly of the Bloog kits, so can someone maybe link me to what they consider to be the best setup? I've looked at their site and alot of the stuff confuses me, so...

808 is a 3.7 volts battery so its standard cartos are often slightly LR for their battery, thus more heat

Similar ohms attys on a slim 510 (3.2v?) or Riva/Ego (3.4v?) are standard attys

Just go a bit lower ohms for your attys. Just don't go extreme LR like 1.5 ohms - I think those are too low for Riva and Ego

The LR ones Liberty-Flights ships with their Rivas are 2.0 or 2.2 ohms. the Boge LR cartos for 510 are 2.0 ohms.

I've heard this. LR atty's apaprently draw more power. They SHOULD be used on a true 3.7 device. Rivas/Egos/Tornados are "fat battery" 510s which actually run around 3.2 under load.

That being said, many people (myself included) have used and are very satisfied with LR attys on a "fat" 510. As we speak, I'm dripping on a Cisco LR 306 (306 also fits 510 threads) on a 650 mah Tornado battery. Will it prematurely kill the battery? I dont know, but some say it does. Does it produce clouds of warm vapor and nice throat hits? Yes. Do I have a true 3.7v device (Prodigy v3) in the mail somewhere on its way to me? Yes... LOL!

OP... try LR 306/510 carts or attys. Cisco LR 306 from AvidVaper is what Im using... if you like LR, get yourself a true 3.7...

EDIT... Im using Cisco LR 306's at 1.5 ohms... theres a learning curve, but I figured it out in ~24 hours. I get consistent hits.

Well I just rinsed out one of my atty's with near boiling water and pliers (haha) and blew it out, let it dry for a minute on a radiator and then grabbed my full charge Riva batt, put it together and voila, got some decent heat; no throat hit though. Will try the LR atty's next. Thanks guys.

Throat hit depends a lot upon the juice and nicotine levels. Some say heat is what gives you throat hit, but that hasnt been my experience... I've gotten "cold" vapes and big throat hits... and I've gotten "warmer" vapes and little/no throat hit. Keep searching, you'll find your vaping nirvana! (Hint: Try to Cisco LR 306s : )
