This thread is for Runners/Joggers, for your vaping and running stories...

  • I'm 47 and began smoking regularly in the US Navy, back in 1982. I ran 7-minute miles then, 7 miles at a time in 49 minutes, and smoked a half pack a day. For 20 years I smoked this much, never had any issues.
  • In 2003 I trained for and ran my first 26.2 mile marathon, smoked all through my training. The only effect smoking caused was an increase in heart rate of 10 beats per minute.
  • In the following years I noticed smoking interfered with my circulation so I began the long process of quitting/relapsing/repeat. I ran 800-1000 miles a year and did several half-marathons, but would often smoke when I couldn't run due to injuries. Finally my injuries abated when I learned to run at 3 steps per second (180 footfalls per minute, or 180 BPM).
  • In 2009 I had quit smoking most of the year, as I tried vaping and had moderate success. Still running 1000 miles a year.
  • 2010, the banner year! I am a full-time vaper and have run 648 miles year-to-date, which is on pace to surpass my best year. I am about 40 pounds heavier than my Navy days and run 10-minute miles now, but am healthy, breathing good, and feeling great.
  • My reasons to vape include my family (including 3 grandkids!), my running, and my health!
Godspeedwork!

That is awesome! I speedwalk a 14 minute mile right now, and am at about 4 miles a day. But I've been vaping for the last week or so and I feel like I can definitely do more. It's coming slowly buy surely. I certainly feel a difference.

You keep it up and you'll see those 40 pounds melt away! :)

Thanks buddy! You have a great pace walking! I recommend you jog 1 minute per mile if you want to ramp it up, then work up to a mile of slow running. My best tip to protect you from soft-tissue injury is that running 3-steps/second. It reduces bounce and protects you from repetitive motion injury. Just count every other step and check your watch after 15 seconds; aim for 45 steps every 15 seconds, of course.

I'm going to take your advice. I'm doing this on the treadmill, so I'm going to program it.

I never exercised before this and have been at it for about 4 months now. When I first started I was at a MUCH slower pace. I can't believe how addicted I am to exercising now. And of course, being a woman, I love to see how many calories I burn in an hour! Never been overweight, just want to be fit. Now that I'm vaping, I notice a difference in my endurance. It's wonderful!
I had excruciating shin splints that FINALLY went away, thank goodness. I think at some point, I'm going to aim for a 1/2 marathon.
