for the past several months I have been running my provari with the light off. when the battery starts getting low the light does not flash. when the battery is too low the light does come on but the pv no longer works. I have two 18650 2000 mah batts that ive used this way since new (6 or more months) and they still work perfectly. they still hold a charge as long as they did when new. just curious if anyone else does this. let me know please. one other thing, the two original 18490 batts haven't held up near as well. I ran them with the light on and changed and charged them when the light started flashing. they are down to about 1/2 life at this point. all comments welcome.

A couple days ago I contacted Provape about the most effective way to charge your batteries and they said to leave them charging until it displays a solid green, rather than when the police lights action appears (flashing red & green).

He's talking about the light on the Provari. He was taking them out and putting them on the charger when they started to flash on the ProVari.

Me, I run them until the ProVari starts flashing. That's when I shut off the light function and keep vaping till they quit. I've never used 18490's, only 18650's so I'm not really helpful here. I haven't had any problems. I do know that if you get more than 6 months of use out of a battery, you are doing something right. These batteries have like a 300 recharge lifespan (I think?) and the smaller the battery, the shorter that lifespan is.

This is the same thing I do... I grab another battery and have it available to swap out when it finally quits... I'd rather discharge it as far as the ProVari will take it down... Those folks at ProVape were pretty smart about everything else they did in the ProVari circuit, I doubt its low voltage cutout is any different. Surely they designed it to be within the safe limits of the battery.

I don't like short cycling my batteries, or overcharging them... So for me, I always use them from full charge to full depletion.

Probably not... It's just hard for me to kick old habits... I used to completely discharge batteries back in my days of racing RC Cars, so that's become a habit I've always adhered to with all rechargeable batteries ever since.

I don't do a complete discharge on these cells... Just til the ProVari quite... Probably just unnecessary steps I'm taking...

Agreed. Can get 2 AW 18650's for the price of 3~ packs of cigs.

if I replace when the light starts flashing will this shorten the lifespan of my batter by a lot?

The provari cuts off at 3.2v, which is a safe spot to drain to. The batteries can go lower but it can be detrimental. I'm under the belief that Provape wouldn't have set the cut off at a level disagreeable for the batteries.

If I'm at home, I'll pop them out when it begins blinking. If I'm out and about I don't worry about it as much.

But as Kemosabe mentioned its better to recharge them sooner rather than later. Not completing the 'cycle' should extend the batteries overall life.
