With all the RY4s around, I am really curious what the RY4 that was actually made by Ruyan was/is like. Does it even exist? Googling around only brings up a bunch of dubious Alibaba hits. Does Ruyan still even make e-liquids?
... Ludo, founder of Janty, claims he, along with another chemist invented the original.
That's one of the things I was talking about. Personally I highly doubt that claim. This seems to be a common scam perpetrated by e-cig companies. Both Volcano and Apollo try to pass off that they invented the Lavatube, and a hundred other places sell them by different names. Gotvapes renames things and acts like they design them. And a European company claims they invented the "Ruyan" flavor when there is or was a Chinese company called "Ruyan", who was the first company to manufacture E-cigs (I won't say invented because I've seen that turn into arguments.)
I can't say that I'm certainly correct in not believing Janty, but I really doubt it, and would like to dig my way to the truth.
I read that somewhere and broke down and payed for that overpriced crap... NOT even close!!! The old RY4 had that 'cotton candy' thing to it that everyone mentioned, plus I could not put the old RY4 down or even need any other juice!Ludo and Janty have been around at least since 2008. It's my understanding that he had an arrangement with DeKang, who actually made the only eliquid at the time, to come up with recipes for Janty and this was one of them. Runyan only made the hardware as I understood it. I can't verify that Ludo helped develop the original formula but the fact that Janty's RY4 tastes very close (if not the same) as the original, tells me he very well could have had a hand in the original recipe.
AFAIK , "Ruyan" is "China Slang" for cigarette like , so it's not hard to imagine why it' s used so much.
Ludo says he and the chemist "got it right" on the fourth attempt hence "RY4"
I'm pretty sure Volcano was the originator of the Lavatube, they sent a design to China and had them build it and went through all the testing and revising. There is a reason its commonly known as the Lavatube, of course no Chinese company is likely to honor any deals either if there is money to be made.

Nope, I solely vaped the same RY4 that everyone else did until Dekang changed the for the crap they sell now. Personally, I could not taste cotton candy, however everyone always said it smelled like coton candy (there are threads that mention the same thing). I always got mine from Heavan Gifts until Dekang changed he friggin formula....The only eliquid back in early (Jan - Feb) 2009 was DeKang, so that is the only RY4 you would have had back then unless you started using RY4 in late 2009 or early 2010 when a few other brands came on the market. That was my main eliquid until they changed the receipe in early 2010. So I do know how the original tasted. Many other vets have agreed with me that Janty's RY4 is the closes to the original. And the original RY4 was ALWAYS described as a light tobacco flavor with carmel and vanilla undertones, not cottom candy. You must have had something other than the original.

There are so many "variations" called RY4, that (at least) run the entire gambet from "Classic China RY4" to "Custom USA mixes" which can even include maple and "sky is the limit" This can be very confusing to anyone (especially new vapers who "figure" RY4 is RY4 and this is one flavor that two can be more different than "night and day" are) I guess it's all part of the fun when it's all said and done.
