Another newb here. Haven't made the switch yet. I've been wanting to quit smoking for awhile now and the recent price hike (a carton went up almost $10.00!) is pushing me in that direction. I have a few ?'s I haven't seen addressed so hopefully someone can answer these.

1. I keep seeing at the bottom of folks posts how much $ they've saved by not smoking but it doesn't seem to take into account how much it costs to vape? I'm talking on a daily basis. I smoke a pack a day, maybe a little less.

2. I watched a video of a comparison between two different 401 models and he had to add liquid to the cartridge while making the video. Do you have to do this all the time? I can't see how this could be very practical. I realize it's not going to be "pick up an e-cig and it'll be just like an analog" but how much of a hassle is it really? I can't see myself "vaping" all day. (I don't smoke all day). Does anyone use this like they used analogs...after a meal, on the drive to work, etc. Do the consumables last longer that way?

3. Are e-cigs available anywhere retail? This could get pricey if it takes as much material (vaporizers, liquid, etc.) as it seems to and I'm paying shipping every week to purchase.

4. Is there a size comparison anywhere between models? I like the idea of the super-mini and someone wrote a "wow" review on it but apparently the batteries, cartridges don't last long due to the smaller size?
TIA,
Lorraine

I'm just about to order my first ecig as well so I'm no expert by any means but I "think" I can clear a bit up for you just from reading the forums for the past month or so.

I can't answer question 1 but it does seem that if you smoke alot like I do that there are some savings involved once you buy the kit and get started.

2. Dripping isn't a "must" it's a preference. From what I understand it has to do with adding more vapor to the experience and adding an xtra throat hit.

3. Most people stock up on supplies. 3 to 4 extra batteries, atomizers, 20 -25 extra cartridges which can be cleaned and refilled with ejuice, and 30ml + of their favorite flavor ejuice. Although the recommendation for us noobs is to start with a sampler pack instead of delving in and buying tons of flavors we might or might not like.

4. As far as size, different models do differ in size and the one people choose is based on their own preferences. If you read the posts in the forum you'll find that most people here own multiple different styles and brands. For me, I'm looking into the M401 due to the longer battery life and it being closer to a "real" cigarette. Also people here are saying they have a decent cart life. Although the DSE901 also seems to be a highly popular choice. Of course their are alot more options out there it's just a matter of reading up and finding out what is important to you before choosing a model.

Hope that helps a bit. Hopefully someone more knowledgable will pop on soon and give you some more concrete answers.

Hi Lorraine,

1. I think a good rule of thumb would be to look at the cost of the cartridges. You'll probably use 2-3 per day. Atomizers are hit and miss. I had one die within 2 weeks but have had another going strong for well over 6 weeks now.

2. When you realize the cost of #1, that's when you'll decide to buy e-liquid and re-fill your cartridges. Personally, I do find it a bit of a hassle but its a tradeoff to save money.

3. Most retail brands of e-cigs currently available have had poor performance reviews and are a bit pricey. Its best to make the initial investment include the cost of stocking up on extra atomizers, carts, e-liquid, usb passthrough to avoid frequent shipping costs. (another tradeoff, paying s/h but no tax, yet lol).

4. This is very true. My initial purchase was a micro e-cig which is even smaller than the super mini. I vape a lot and it seems my carts are always dry and I re-charge batts routinely. Eventually, you'll build up a bunch of DIY carts that'll allow you to swap out instead of refill during the day. Battery chargers that plug into your car cig lighter or computer, make it easy to keep one battery charging while you are using the other.

I like the small e-cig when out and about, but when I'm at home I vote for a bigger one with a usb passthrough. The carts need less re-filling and no battery re-charging required.

the added cost for most of us is in trying new hardware looking for that "perfect" vape. if you get one good unit, and use liquid to refill, it would probably cost about 1/4 of what smoking costs. figure 30-40 for atomizer and juice per month vs. 100-200 a month for a few cartons a month. topping up cartridges is very easy, only takes seconds, and lasts as long as 3-10 cigarettes once you get the hang of it and depending on the unit(dont challenge that 10 unless you own an 801 ;)). i own a rn4075 2 pilots and em-901 and a dse 801....im still trying out units for fit, and have not saved any money yet, but have a ton of juice on hand, and pretty sure i havent spent more than my smoking habit( i got about 1 unit per month). and i dont use a paperclip for refilling the 401, and i dont have the best aim, its easier than people make it seem.
ps. since you dont need a lighter ashtray or disposal of butts, its closer to pick up and use than cigs are.

Just to give you an idea of what goes on at my house. I vape and so does my wife. That makes 2 of us.

2 901 kits 99.98
2 extra atomizers 19.98
2 extra batteries 29.98
1 bottle of ejuice 29.99 (30ml 18mg strength)

Total cost 179.93 Free shipping.

Now you might think WOW! thats alot! pfft, not really. The bottle of ejuice has already lasted 2 weeks. It's barley at half full.

Carton of analogs a week for me and her 80.00$ (rough estimate their about 38.99 +tax a piece). So for the 2 weeks we have both been vaping it would have cost us $160.00 for 2 weeks worth of analogs. Savings? Not yet, However, because we are now starting our 3rd week we have to add another $80 for analogs. Total cost $240

BAM! 3 weeks and were already saving! Massively! So, by the time the ejuice runs out (4 weeks) I will have saved both of us 160$ in one months time. After that, one bottle of e-juice a month at $30 versus $320. For us thats a savings of $290 a month.

A Win Win for me and my wife. Plus, dont forget alof of us experience better health, easier breathing, and no longer walk around with that awful stench of smokes all over us!

The others speak for me. :)

Just wanted to add (not knowing which vid you watched), this was likely one of 2 things: 1. Demonstrating how to use fluid to fill/top off carts or 2. Demonstrating how to drip with empty carts (fluid on the atomiser and no filler/batting in the carts).

You can save a boatload of $$$ by using fluid to refill your carts. I fill mine about 2x per day and use a cart for 3 days.

I'm looking at PureSmoker because I want to get the Pure Menthol. I think I've narrowed it down to either the PeeWee or the Mini. I'm not sure how much difference there is in the size, I can't find dimensions anywhere.

I'm trying to figure out what I'd need to get going with the menthol juice...The cores/inhalers? Are those just "empty" cartridges?

What do you think of the Hybrid?

There is more involved with using the ecig than the analogs. You have to decide if it's worth the extra time. I started ecigs 2 weeks ago and was able to stop analogs last Wed. Spend a lot of time reading this forum so you can make a good decision on what to buy. I own both the Pilot and the Penstyle and love the penstyle. I'm one of the few people who is not in love with the Pilot. The batts and the carts don't last long enough for my liking but that's just me. We all have our opinions. The initial cost is up there for some but as mentioned previously it works out for the better over time. Analogs went up $8 a carton in my state and are going up again in April. I for one have decided the govt has taxed me long enough for my habit and I'm not paying anymore. If you're a light to med smoker I'd start out with the Pilot or DSE901. If you're med to heavy smoker I'd go with a penstyle. The penstyle carts and batts last much longer and have more vapor and throat hit. Just my 2 cents.

We may be forced to eat the tax with the use of analogs if the senator in NJ succeeds in setting the spark with the FDA on halting ecigs. We gotta rally.
