Day 3 of the Sabot experimentation weekend.

Ok, I put in yet another coil that had not been vaping well at all, yet it was brand new. I figured... hmmm... if the changing of the flavor wicks worked so well in the last coil, welp, then let's do that again!

Flavor wicks, changed.
Install.
Adjust air flow wheel.
Fill tank to 1/4 (don't let Big D see this!)
Vape.

All went well and the vape was fine... until this morning, when I discovered I had almost nothing but puffs of air. Huh? It sounded gurgley. I braced myself for the inevitable. I removed the tank and sure enuf. Major leak inside the tank area. Bummer in the summer.

I also notice what looked like a bit of flavor wick hanging out at the TOP of the Sabot, right where it meets the top hole of the tank, but on the inside of the tank. HUH? If anything weird can happen, it will happen. Katmurphy's Law.

My guess is that it truly is the dreaded too low of a fill situation. Has anyone had any good experiences with a very little amount of liquid left in the tank?

It's now in the vape laundry and once cleaned and dried, I will again replace the wicks, and give it a go...... in a FULL tank.

I'm a modder now, right? :D

Kat, could be the number of flavor wicks in which you are installing. Try adding one more strand to see if that helps. The fact that one moved around tells me that they are not taking up all the space in the juice entry slots. When the sabot is all put together, the flavor wicks should not fall out of sabot or be so loose you could knock them out easily. You can also try fluffing up the ends too. That helps them absorb more juice and swell to fill the space.

Also, on the juice darkening. I would be curious for those who are seeing a darkening list their nic level and those not seeing it happening also list their nic level. I read a blog by Mike Petro that discussed how heat causes nicotine to break down into another form which darkens during this process. Another component could be the wattage in which we are running. Lower resistance or higher voltage could be increasing the heat level increasing this darkening. And I have to think that some color could be leaching from the wick too (from caramelization on the coil and wick). I rarely refill my tank as it isn't the only device I use. So my juice stays in it for a longer period of time than I suspect it does with others. But regardless of either reason, there doesn't seem to be any reason for worry.

I will try and find that blog and post since it was an interesting read.

Mmmmm DJ mine has not been darkening. I'm using a 2.2 ohm coil atm with a mix of NLV's Red Apple(40%) and Caramel Reef(60%) @ 12mg. My dial is set at 4.4ish. Tank is around the 1/4 full mark. When I started with full tank my voltage was set at lowest then as I got past the 1/2 full mark I bumped it up to the 4.4. Hope this helps. Oh I forgot mine is a rebuilt coil using 32ga kanthal and hemp for wick and flavor wick.

Okie dokie. I've now filled, fluffed and stuffed, J. 3, count 'em, 3 flavor wicks. Can't have those buggers just taking off like that, now can we!

And the verdict? Excellent vapor production, very good throat hit, moderately flavorful. I think this will "break in" tho and produce a more flavorful vape.

For your spreadsheet data gathering adventure:

18mg for me.

Nic will darken over time with oxygen as well as with light. I always thought heat played its role, too.

Yup, all three play their roles in the breakdown of nic. Though not so sure the oxygen and light are nearly as fast at doing so as heat. But that is the reason for the amber glass bottles (the reduce the light exposure). Have also seen it suggested that as you use nic, to break it down into smaller bottles to reduce the larger surface area and oxygen exposure, plus storing in freezer. Of course the latter suggestions are for the DIY juice maker.

Speaking of light exposure, same deal with premium beer. Light effect the hop oils turning them into a skunky smelling compound. So most beers are put in amber bottles. The tradition of lemon/lime wedge started from the beers in clear bottles, to cover the smell. Modern breweries use hop extracts that are not effected, but unfortunately every Mexican restaurant in the US seems to still follow the tradition except with every beer they serve.....yuck. I have to tell them hold the wedge. Mmm...beer......:toast:.......

I've only gone thru a couple of tanks with the Sabot. But yes the juice is darkened. I vape two juices only, both 12mg nic. They both darken, one faster and darker than the other. I vape about 3 to 4ml a day, the juices will start darkening at the end of the second day. I dry burn and re wick after about 8 to 12ml of juice vaped.

I mix my own juices, using just PG/VG and Flavoring (No color enhancement), 12 and 18 mg in a 50/50 mixture. I buy nic in 100mg strength and straight PG, and mix it down to either 12 or 18 mg depending on which flavor I am making. All my juices are clear after creation and steeping. All also change color / darken over time in the BB Tank or any other tank I'm using. I think it's just a combination of the heat produced by the coil / exposure to air. If you start off with a caramel or other darker colored juice, you may not notice the darkening, because, well, it's as dark or darker starting out than it would get compared to a clear or light shade juice.

I can't really say I've noticed my juice getting darker. I may not be a typical vapor. Right now I have 7 devices loaded sitting beside my chair. I rotate my vaping between them all constantly. Each has a different flavor. I don't have one favorite ADV.

Thinking about this I think there are more factors to consider when looking for reasons your juice may be darkening in the BB.

IS the BB the only device your are using?
What voltage do you have your BB set to?
How long is your draw, 3 secs, 5 secs, 10 secs, or more. The longer the draw the hotter the coil.
Are you a chain vapor? If you are vaping constantly the coil stays hotter for much longer periods of time.

These along with other things that have already been mentioned and maybe some I haven't thought of are all reasons the juice could darken in the BB tank. JMHO

I'm late to the party as my Sabot-DDD had to travel a bit more to get to me.

I got mine yesterday and quickly rebuilt one with 32 awg Kanthal wrapped 7 times around 2mm screw driver (just like Scubabatdan's Youtube video). Put 2 strand folded into 4 strand into the coil and two strand on the top of the coil.

So far, very impressive. The design is definitely more one-piece than billet bridge and ARO head is really easy to rebuild without NR wire. I will most likely have to play around with 3/6 strands through the coil and number of stands on the top of the coil to find the wick sweetspot.

I can see myself building an army of ARO heads ready to just switch over as I change flavors.

I'm ready for 2nd co-op 'cause I need more Sabot-DDDs in my life :D

I must say I'm really impressed with how well the stock heads are working for me. I always rebuild them with cotton, but my home improvement project, along with work has left me little time to play as of late. Popped one in this AM...not to shabby.

On another note, I had 3 Trustfire charges. That is until today. One died overnight, and one now only charges in 1 bay. Strange that both would go belly up overnight??? So all I have left is my mobile charger at work lol.

Just ordered two EH 2014 WS1 chargers. Hope they work good!

Check your electrical outlet for power fluctuations, if it moves between 110-120v or spikes and drops it could be a power problem. Might consider a line stabilizer. Just something to check.

Yep, I was wondering if maybe lightening had hit overnight or something. They were both plugged into the same outlet, into an extension cord too. So when the new ones come in, I'll plug em into a surge power strip this time. No other electronics in the house have a problem, so could be that outlet or extension cord. Hadn't considered that!

We're putting in new flooring in the kitchen and great room. So right now, all of my furniture, and more importantly, my vape gear is stuffed in the garage. Makes setting up new vape gear a chore when I can't find everything, and no table to work on lol.
