Hi everyone, I have just got out of the hospital, and have decided to completely make the switch to e cigs from real cigarettes.

I have a cheap ego style setup, was only around £6 from a cheap shop, but I have read some stories of them exploding, and wondered if there are any safety tips?

I am currently using a usb wall adapter to charge, as the kit only came with a usb cable charger, so had to buy a seperate wall adapter.

Also, can I safely use any CE4 type head with the battery, as the shop had run out of them, so I bought from a different shop, and it is a different brand (Jenson), but still fits the battery and works fine.

Sorry if this does not make much sense, it is to do with my condition if it is a bit rambling.

Thank you, Conan.

Cheap batteries explode for a number of reasons. The primary one is using the wrong charger. The wall adapter should be ok as long it is not too powerful as long as you use the actual charging cord. Do not charge it when not around it. If you're worried about it exploding, feel it occasionally to make sure it does not heat up too much. Do not charge overnight. These are just precautions though, be smart and responsible.

Any ego threaded topper should work. The CE4 should work without a problem.
I'd also recommend buying two more batteries. One for backup, the other to use while one is charging.

Hi Conan,
As long as the wall adapter says 5v output it will be ok. That's what most of them are. A safety tip is to not leave it charging overnight. Take it off the charger to be on the safe side.

You can use any attachment that threads onto your device and fits properly - so a different brand of topper, like your CE4 will be fine.

Hope you are feeling a bit better soon too.

burnnoticefanny , I did feel the battery during charging, it is staying cool. I have been charging for only 2 hours at a time, like the box says, and only when the light flashes when the battery runs out.

kiwivap , Yes its a 5V wall adapter, and it threads on perfectly, it is exactly the same, just a different brand, but after reading the stories of them exploding I was a tad worried lol.

And thank you, I should be OK in a while, will just take time for what I have put my body through(was an alcohol addiction), and seeing as I have kicked that, I thought I might as well the cigs aswell :).

Hey Conan! Congrats on making the switch! It will be hard at first, but well worth it my friend. I regained my sense of smell and taste that I never knew to be lost. It hit me about 2 months into vaping when I walked into work and realized I could smell the flowers that decorated the entry way. In six years, I never smelled those flowers!

Sounds like you should be just fine with your current setup. My biggest recommendation is to make sure to never overcharge your battery. (leaving it plugged in beyond the point of being fully charged) This can lead to a battery failure. As far as the "heads" go, CE4's will work with Ego type batteries perfectly. (to the best of my knowledge, as I started with an Ego and a Protank) The charger that came with my first set up was pretty much the same as yours but mine did come with the wall adapter.

I would also recommend investing in a second backup Ego. The last thing you want is to run out of power, especially when first making the switch.

This forum was a life saver for me. Tons of info, plenty of knowledgable people always wiling to share info. Best recourse you could ask for. A little mental fortitude and a lot of lurking on ECF got me there, and It can get you there too.

Wish you a speedy recovery and all the best! Cheers!

Everything above, and a double +1 on the Lipo charging bag.

If you keep an eye out on everything up there (sounds like a lot, but really its not so bad - touch it to make sure its cool, dont charge unattended, dont get will nilly chargers from ????) and you will have the greatest chance of having no issue. If you add the lipo bag, it'll save your .... if one issue sneaks in and happens due to the shoddier construction. Its like a £6 fail safe.

Welcome to ECF and Congrats on all of your quitting :D

I know its probably silly but I stick mine in a big marble canister with the lid off. Someone let me know if this is not a good idea. I also always charge mine when I am awake. Which is most of the time. Thank you for posting this question. Safety is always the #2 concern. (#1 always having a charged battery and backups)

Just a nice general rule of thumb is to also use a charger with an amperage rating lower than the capacity of the battery.
For example if your ego battery is 600Mah then use a charger with a <=0.6A rating.

When you hear of batteries exploding its usually either due to using an incorrect charger (Wrong amperage), overcharging (using a cheap charger with no cut-off) or exceeding the amp limit on a battery with no regulation/protection (mechanical)
