AW IMR batteries are the safest batteries you can find. Rechargeable Batteries They are safe chemistry, high drain batteries; each battery individually inspected/tested by AW. However, they can still vent hot gas capable of resulting in second degree burns should they go into failure (thermal runaway). There is NO completely safe battery; some are considered safer than others.

Beware of "fake" or counterfeit AW batteries, which are often sold on EBay and Amazon. These could be re-wrapped used batteries or re-wrapped ICR batteries made by disreputable distributors out to make a quick & easy buck. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/batteries-chargers/568840-sure-your-aw-batteries-genuine-how-tell.html Purchase genuine AW IMR's from a reputable & authentic dealer like RTD Vapor.

IMR_battery_post-venting.jpg Rare example of a dramatic AW IMR battery failure which vented outside of a mod.

ICR (protected) batteries should be considered obsolete for mod use. They use a volatile (flamable) chemistry which can vent flames or explode during thermal runaway. Avoid any battery with "fire" in its name like the plague.

* If building sub-ohm coils, use a 30 amp battery (continuous discharge rate) like the Sony VTC IMR/Hybrid batteries.

Sony VTC brand can go as low as 0.14 ohms
AW 10 amps can go as low as 0.42 ohms
LG HE2 can go as low as .21 ohms

so with 30 amp batteries .14 ohms with 20 amp .21 and with 10 amp you can use .42.

Your best bet is to go ahead with the VTC5 because it has the highest mah rating out of all of them and the 30 amp limit so basically all your vaping needs

be aware that the 30 amp rating is a absolute maximum continuous rate measured across time. typically 60 seconds max. these batteries are not designed to be operated at or near this rate as a matter of course. be sure to read up on the ins and outs of using these batteries safely when sub ohming.
