I have been working on some mods. We have a small lab and large machine shop at work, so I have a pretty handy R&D facility to play in.

I was looking at the Fluval plug mod for my 510 / EGO set up. The carts need a better juice transport mechanism, without question.

When taking some depth measurements to see the available headspace between the 510 cartridge and atomizer element, I found the following issue:

The cartridge seats about .040" beyond the highest point of the atomizer element.

This would indicate that the fluval foam material would be in contact with the atomizer element. Assuming that the plugs are generally placed to strike flush with the end of the cartridge, one of two things would happen.

1. The foam would retire rearward as the cartridge is advanced into the element. This is purely column friction and the traction to resist the movement is likely different for any given plug.

2. The foam remains fixed in its position within the cartridge and is deflected around the element.

If the material is not pushed back to a point of certain clearance with the atomizer element, then contact with it is assured.

so.............

In either case, I have to ask the experts here, is bringing polyurethane foam into contact with the element, creating an off-gassing of the foam?

Thank you! I wish I would have read this before I tore down my atomizer to find out exactly what you just told me. I guess I may as well finish my temp test. It will be useless, but we will know how hot a bridge gets.

the foam is coming in contact with the atty bridge, not the element itself. the bridge houses the wick that supplies the atty with liquid; some contact is needed for the juice to make it to the element. dont worry, unless you're vaping to the point where there is no juice left in the foam

I've seen some temperature test results around here somewhere.
I might even be able to find them again if needed, probably in threads discussing acrolein.

But it never hurts to see other results, and I look forward to hearing what you find out.
