Nicotime- There's a Michaels where I live, I'll check them out this weekend. I'm also looking at the amazing casting resin.

We think alike Sci...I have been thinking of taking some play-doh in my hand and squish it to form the inside of my hand, let it harden and smooth it out...them make a mold of it with the putty. Then take the resin and mold that...drill it out for the batt, switch and bottle...and have a custom PV that fits perfectly.

Problem is every time I eyeball the kids play-doh I get yelled at.

Now that, is a great idea! Got a question. Instead of having to drill all of that, could you make objects(bottle, battery, etc. out of resin) & then place them inside the main models resin while it was setting? You could reuse them over & over.

LOL about the kids playdoh.:)

Yeah...thought about molding in place stuff like the connector, switch and other permanent items. That would be great but you would probably have to split the mold in half to have the internals and cavities molded on the inside of both halves...then resin the two halves together after everything is set in place...make any sense? Same as blow molding but without the machine to do it in one step.

Dammit Sci....now ya got me going on a tenth project in my head...me ittle-brittle cranium gonna explode.:w00t:

boom...:) How hard is it to get a mold 'out of' resin? I was thinking in terms of having the bottom of the hand grip open & making a slide on cover. Pressing the bottle & battery molds in the resin while it was setting. Or, just a tube of the correct size, maybe?
BTW, I've got a touch switch circuit that I am going to try, real simple. If it works, I'll let you know. That site you posted in the other thread is a real good one, but I think I found this one somewhere else. All it needs is a transistor & 2 resistors.

That would be a lot of volume to displace Sci, plus you would still need to oversize it a little. With two halves you could even mount some of the things after it sets up a bit. Dunno...have to see what the resin is like I guess.

Yeah...I'm gonna give the switch a try also.

Hopefully, my local Michaels will have both.
This is the switch I'm looking at...

it was the amazing putty. but it comes in yellow and purple. the yellow gives you more time to work with.
The Amazing Mold Putty has a sister product which is Purple. The primary difference between the two formulations is that the Purple is faster. The work time of the Purple is 1.5 minutes and the demold time is less than 10 minutes. This works well if you are doing small molds and do not wish to wait 20 minutes for your mold to harden/cure. It does not work very good when you need to mix up slightly larger amounts due to the time required to mix it thoroughly does not give you much time to roll the mixed putty into a ball and press it over your item. Therefore the Yellow Amazing Mold Putty gives you a more user friendly 4 minute work time and a 15-20 demold time.

Hey Sci...did you ever get the resin and work with it? I got the clear Castin'Craft stuff today at Michaels to do some experimenting.

Guess it would make more sense to PM you huh...DUH!!

LOL. Got the PM & answered. I'll go ahead & answer here, also. I haven't gotten it yet, but soon. Let me know how that stuff works. I'm really interested in it. Here's something else I'm looking at. That one is going to take some time, though.

Well I wouldn't get the stuff at Michaels Sci, its polyester and is the same thing used in Bondo body putty...same smell too. It hardened up ok but it still a bit too soft of material for me. I put some PGA and e-juice on it and let it sit and it did soften it slightly. It drills fine but the odor is just too much.

I am going to order some urethane from here and save this stuff for the kids to embed some bugs or toenail clippings or something.

Don't you want the mold to be pliable? That way you can 'peel' it off of the molded item & it returns to shape for the next one?

Yes...but the mold for the mod shape will be silicone putty. Then pour the resin in the mold to make the actual mod...basically like injection molding with resin for the plastic. I will probably need to make the putty mold in two halves for the outer shape and one center to shape the batt and juice bottle compartments....like putting together two halves of a avocado with the pulp removed and the seed suspended inside, the resin would be the pulp or mod...I'm not making any sense am I. This is starting to sound complicated for a mod or two.
Or just make two halves...hold it together....pour the resin in...then drill it out.:toast:
