I couldn't determine where the best place for this post would be...but I thought I would share something I saw on the news earlier today that really frustrated me. It was a segment on e-cigs, and they could not have put a more negative spin on it if they tried! Basically...they were saying many people go this route to quit smoking, and they of course comment on the fact they are not FDA approved. They had a doctor saying that there is really no way to tell how much nicotene one is taking in when they are using ecigs, etc. However...I found it quite comical that he made no mention of the lack of tar, carcinogens, or all of the cancer causing chemicals. They also made no mention of having the ability to reduce the amount of nicotene with e-cigs over time, and having the option to get 0 nicotene as well.

The second thing they said really frustrated me....they said that they believe e-cigs could be a gateway for teenagers to start smoking real cigarettes. Now...I think we all know...that these flavors we can vape taste SO much better than any cigarette ever did...if anything, I would think teenagers would find analogs even more disgusting if they tried vaping first! As an ex smoker...I now find the taste of cigarettes disgusting primarily because of how good vaping can taste! (Not that I condone either for teens by any means whatsoever.....but I just thought their logic was pretty backwards and uninformed there.

I thought I would share this with you all just as an FYI and possible conversation starter. I just found it unfortunate that many smokers who have struggled so hard trying to quit may have seen that, and could have decided against vaping as a possible solution for them....when I think just removing the tar, carcinogens, etc, in and of itself is EXTREMELY positive and makes vaping a really good solution for so many people out there. It's certainly the only thing that has worked for me anyway!

Daniele25: You're absolutely right. When you come across one of these negative news reports, check to see whether anyone else has posted on it. Look for words from the title in the list of postings in this sub-forum. Sometimes the name of the paper or the television station are included in the thread title.

If nobody else has posted, when you post a new thread about the story, provide a link. That enables the community to go and leave comments, or contact the reporter, or send a Letter to the Editor. We combat partial truths, exaggerations, and unfounded accusations with facts.

Also, check out The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association: CASAA - The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association
CASAA provides information about reduced-risk alternatives and also fights to keep these alternatives legal, available, and to avoid excessive taxation on such products.

When you become active fighting the opposition, it helps to relieve some of the disappointment, anger, and frustration you feel upon coming across the negative publications, because you are doing something about the problem.
