Well I finally got my e-cig the other day and was very excited to try it. I loaded everything up and began vaping. I took about 12-15 puffs in about an hour or so. I started to get a little uncomfortable as my heart started racing with tightness in my chest. I took a couple a deep breaths and thats when my lungs began to hurt. All those symptoms lasted a couple hours and haven't touched my e-cig since (been about 3 days).

Did a lot of reading on this site and think i might try VG instead and start with a lower MG. The liquid i got was 24% which is high to start from what i read. I will try a few diff mixes and see if my body excepts it. Makes me wonder how safe these things really are. Iv been smoking analogs for 15 years and never once felt like that. You do have to be responsible with e-cig as it can get out of control. Just knowing i can vap in my room i found myself grabbing it every few mins to take a puff.

Will do a lot more reading but dam i really was hoping to make the switch. Im so tired to smoking period and have been for a while but with my addictive personality its freakin hard. Sorry for rant, just wanted to share my first experience with you all. Any suggestions and advice is more then welcome.

I'm assuming that 24% was a typo and you meant 2.4% or 24mg because 24% is just crazy.

Like the others have said, lower the nicotine content, and drink plenty of water as it flushes nic out pretty darn quick.

Giving VG juice a try is a pretty good idea too with the lower nic and higher water intake.

Listen to your body. It knows what it needs better than you do.

Some people are more sensitive to getting nicotine in a different way. I started on 14 mg and went up to 18 mg, but I am a basket case at 24 mg. None of that makes sense because I smoked more than a pack a day of full strength cigarettes. Other people, who were casual smokers before, can handle 36 mg.

Like Hoosier wrote, I sure hope it wasn't 24%!

What is the PG/VG of your juice (and if it didn't say it is probably all-PG Chinese juice)

Nicotine is a skin irritant. 24mg (like full strength cigs) nicotine would be quite irritating. PG does very litle to buffer anything - it is thin and lets through the most flavor, the most TH and the most of nicotine's irritation. And what ecig did you get? If you are using LR attys or LR cartos on a fat-battery model OR is your are using Vapor4Life/KR808D-1 which si a hotter mini, 24mg can be extra irritating.

Try 16-18mg or even 10-12mg too and if you are using juice try juice with some VG in it. 20-30% VG will make nice vapor as well as buffer the irritation while dulling the TH and flavor a bit. You will not have a nic fit from using lower nic - you may be able to take bigger drags or you can take extra drags.

When vaping do not draw directly into your lungs. Draw into your mouth then inhale. With manual batteries you can press the button in 1-1.5 seconds early, then start dragging as soft as your want, letting up the button a 1-1.5 seconds before the end of your drag (that way the last vaporto enter your mouth will not be the hottest).

It would help to know what ecig and juice or prefills you are using. If you bought something like a 510 or other atomizer model, prefills are usually not great juice - Chinese PG. Hopefully you were not vaping primer - the nasty tasting stuff that comes on many new attys - that stuff is very harsh and and smelly.

Also to be aware of - overuse of nicotine can lead to racing or irregular heartbeat, headache, unwell feeling or dizziness. It can be easy to over-nic oneself when testing new juices or vaping a juice you can't put down, or if you are using a level too high for you. Everyone absorbs it differently

And another thing - some people are actually allergic to PG (not many since PG is even used for hospital inhalation therapies). But some people are, and they need to vape heigher VG or 100% VG liquids.

Oh dear...now I'm a little worried. I just ordered 24mg this morning as my first sample and now I wonder if I should have gotten the 12mg. (I smoke a lot...1.5 packs of Camel Lights a day.)

Don't worry too much about it, just don't vape yourself into a nic OD. Most people vape constantly when they first get started, cause, well... it's so cool! I started with 24mg juice too (18 now though), take it easy when your body tells you to. If your pulse starts rising, ease up on the VP for a bit.

in the OLD days of the forum the advice to noobs on nic strength was always to start low IE 8-12mg. if that worked then great. now most advice seems to run at 24mg ( this is inadvertent advice due to posters telling the op what they are currently using themselves) and HOPE that you can handle it.with most juice vendors also selling 36mg unflavored now (which can be added by the drop to lo-mg juice to save them) i wish experienced vapors would stress the lower nic levels to beginners. deactivating ecf geezer mode.

Those are symptoms of a panic attack. And I also had a very similar experience the first time I tried vaping. For me it was a mix of:

a) The excitement of finally trying it
b) Nervousness about what I was about to put in my body
c) A higher level of nicotine than I really needed
d) I puffed 10-15 times quickly (like you did) out of excitement and awe for the cool little device
e) My panic response is quicker than most

I was fine within an hour and realized I needed a lower nicotine level and to sloooooooow down.

A good rule of thumb I have for myself is if I realize my legs are getting restless and I'm getting fidgety, it's time to put the PV aside for a little while. :)

My throat didn't like PG when I vaped it all night. I use pure VG now and no more throat problems.

Thank you all for the very informative replies. To answer some question i bought the Riva 510 and am using whatever came in the box. The liquids are from Liberty Flights and i only bought 2 small samples to start with. Both are 5ml 24mg in strength bottles, one is mint the other is Va tobacco. I honestly purchased everything as an impulse buy.

Wanted one for a while, tried it at a bbq and ordered a couple days after. There really is a lot to learn and didnt realize it till after the fact. Now i do have problems with panic attackes but my Dr.seems to think otherwise. I get these knots in my chest and i get real nervous but this felt different.

Any recommendations on a good site to order US made liquids? Would like to try low strength maybe 12% vg instead of pg. The only reason i ordered from where i did is because it stated it made in Ca. After some reading im not sure thats the case. Im really glad i didnt go wild and order a crap load of liquid.
