Hi all,
I'm a newbee on day 3 of vaping and thought I'd share my detailed 3 day experience in case others are interested. I enjoyed reading other experiences which helped me to make my first purchase (Mini E-Cig - 901 from Cashmere - PureSmoker.com). The unique thing about my experience is that I got my starter kit and made the switch to e-smoking right as I was coming down with a VERY NASTY chest cold and still have it.
History:
I've been a Marlboro light smoker for about 15 years or so. About a half a pack to a pack each day. My habit consisted of a routine 4-5 cigs each morning and each night with the occasional one or two through the day. I don't consider myself a heavy smoker but absolutely 100% addicted and never successful at quitting.
DAY 1: (Saturday)
Got my Mini-Ecig 901 from Steve (Puresmoker.com) and a bottle of Medium Vanilla liquid on Saturday in the mail. I had a nasty head cold and it just started affecting my chest (coughing). I was still very excited to try e-smoking even though I was getting sick. The sad part is that I had already sucked down 4 or 5 analogs that morning even with the nasty cold. I opened my kit and Steve had me all ready to start vaping (batteries fully charged - which was great!).
I put the cig together and started to vape the Marl. Med cartridges that came with my kit. I must say, it was strange at first. Didn't feel like a real cig or taste like one at all but there was plenty of vapor. I kept picking it up and trying it out all day, a few puffs here and there, couldn't really tell if I was getting more nicotine or not (maybe I was afraid of overdosing and taking short puffs).
My initial reaction to e-smoking was, it's kinda cool but I couldn't see myself completely switching over to e-smoking. The taste was just too weird at first. I probably smoked 10 analogs that day and vaped here and there in between. Then charged my device and went to bed.
DAY 2 (Sunday)
My chest cold had progressed normally as I suspected it would. My cough was violent in the morning and similar to every chest cold I get every year. I decided to have 1 analog cig in the morning and my lungs felt like they were on fire. So I vowed to myself that if I needed the nicotine today (a given), I would vape only and not subject my lungs to any more real smoke torture. I vaped here and there through the day - taking about 6-8 deep puffs on the e-cig with (Medium) liquid. The taste of the e-cig got better (bareable) as the day went on and I wasn't smoking any real cigs. By the end of the day, I noticed that even though I was sick, I could actually smell and taste things noticably better. The taste of the e-cig got better as the day went on and I never felt the urge to go back outside for an analog cig the remainder of the day. I never felt like the e-cig was making me cough as compared to regular cigs. I think it actually helped to dry me up a bit and possibly suppressed my cough on a very minute level. No burning sensation either.
By the end of day 2 I started feeling good about myself for not smoking an analog cig in almost 24 hours! I can say that if I did not have the e-cig, I probably would have smoked 10 regular cigs that would have made my chest cold and cough much worse.
DAY 3 (Monday)
Still have the chest cold but noticed an even bigger return in my smell and taste senses from not smoking analogs in 24+ hours. I puffed on the e-cig in the morning and got a decent dose of nicotine to hold me for a while. One thing I notice is that it takes the nicotine longer to hit you than an analog cig. It comes on slower and is something to get used to. I think the best thing for a newbie is to take a few slow drags and put it down, wait 5 minutes or so and see if you need more. The taste of the e-cig was still getting better since I had not been smoking real cigs but the taste was still not "great". I started thinking it's something I could get used to though. Also, day 2 and day 3 - I haven't noticed any negative side effects of e-smoking that others have mentioned (no sore throat - although I've been drinking lots of fluids anyway which probably help). My chest cold cough is less violent and frequent than Day 2. I vaped discretely while at work today which was a first for me (don't normally smoke while at work). It helped to calm my cravings after lunch and no one even noticed since the vapor has no odor at all.
Temptations were eating at me after work today for an analog. It has only been 2 days but I was seriously craving a real cig today. I fired one up, took about 2 puffs and put it out. Absolutely disgusting. My lungs felt like they were on fire, my mouth tasted like ... again, and I couldn't believe that I actually tried to put myself through the agony of real smoke again.
CONCLUSION:
I've been e-smoking tonight and I must say that it is evolving into a more enjoyable experience on day 3. I had some doubts about it on Day 1 and 2 but those doubts are slowly starting to fade away. I decided to order some more supplies from PureSmoker.com today - more liquids (Coconut, Pina Colada, Strawberry, & Menthol), extra atomizers & batteries. It took 3 days but I'm actually getting used to the regular Marl. Medium & Vanilla Medium flavors. They still are not great and nothing like a real cig but the sensation of smoking is pretty darn close to the real thing without the smell, fire, or lung irritating toxins. I wasn't sure I should start e-smoking with a chest cold but I actually think it saved me from a lot of agony. I know that my addiction would have eventually overrulled my cold and driven me to smoke real cigs which would have made me feel 10 times worse than I already do. The e-cig nicotine has kept calm and sedated and I don't feel any negative side-effects of the e-cig so far.
Three days and I'm seriously starting to see this as an effective way out of quitting real cigs for good! I'm usually a big grouch when I get sick but this time I feel pretty good dispite my ailment. I think it's because I normally smoke less when I get sick, get less nicotine = turn into a monster, then when I do smoke, it makes me feel worse, dragging me down even further.
I know this is long, but I'm just excited to share my experience with others who may get something out of it.
Cheers...
