is there anyone in here that was able to just put the gen3 together ,season it and start vapeing on it ?been tryin to get mine going good for a couple of days now. and still harsh, and not too much build-up on the coil yet

@ all,
If you read the Genisis threads building a Genisis is just the first part. now your in the "Fiddle with it part". This has been discussed at length. It takes a while to get it just right. There are a lot of things to deal with in the "Fiddle with it part". Mesh count, mesh diam, mesh tightness, kanthal gauge, number of wraps, how tight to wrap it, oxidation, break in, voltage, air hole,,,, and even if you do get it to where it is suppose to be that doesn't mean you will like it. A Genisis has a unique taste, most people love it, I don't like it, but they are fun to build. But hey I'm a modder. I just like to build mods, but I vape a CE2 or a modded dual coil. Be patient the smallest thing can make a big change. When you get it you'll know.

Ok, good point. So It looks like I am outta luck with my nearest ACE Hardware, because they don't do SS M1.6 nuts, only the zinc ones.
So, if anyone happens to be going to their ACE Store that does supply the correct ones, please grab me 6 and I'll reward you hansomely. Unless anyone has a handy link so I can just order online?

From my welding and cutting torch days, Yes burning zinc will rip you a new one. whether the heat from a coil is enough to burn it is doubtful.

You can always grind off the zinc coating. It's not very thick.

This will keep the Kanthal from unraveling on the spool.

Take a pair of side cutters and cut two notches in the outer lip of the spool.

I used a pair of cuticle cutters to cut my notches.

:facepalm:now I feel bad...I've been doing that since I got my first spool and never said anything...think of all the finger pokes and Wire cuts I could have saved people........Oh the Humanity of it all!!!!

Ok as per my wick wrapping post 1076, 1077 and 1078:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modders-forum/194934-scubagen-mods-108.html#post3808287

I have done a complete build and created the wick per these istructions. The wick measures 1.56mm thick and requires 5 wraps to get to 1.8ohms. After oxidizing the SS and wrapping the wire, I fired it up, pulsing it to ensure the entire coil turned red. It did, I then filled it with juice and took 5 mouth fulls and blew them out. On the 6th time I inhaled. Good throat hit, and lots of vapor, but normal that I am used to. Very airy and smooth, no harsh taste. So in summary...
Cut your SS to 3/4 x 4" and roll it using a 24-22ga wire in the middle. It works like a soda straw and delivers the juice in a consistant fasion.
Hope this helps those struggling with a harsh hit.

I couldn't find ruby flux at the shack or ace, is there anything else I could use?

I found zinc oxide "regular paste flux" but it says not for electronics use with aluminum or magnesium. Is this ok?

Jim, I have been having the same difficulty finding the proper flux. Discovered that it must contain hydrochloric acid in order to solder the stainless steel tubing I use in my atty mods. I found this product in a local hobby store. It is called Stay-Brite (Silver bearing solder kit), part # SBSKPOP from the Harris Poducts Group. URL will take you to a page to find local source. http://www.harrisproductsgroup.com/...ldering/Lead-Free-Solders/Stay-Brite-Kit.aspx

Hey Dan, I know your a busy guy and what not, but is there a way you can put up a video on the last 2 or 3 instructions on setting up the coil and wick. To make sure we are all on the same page on how to oxidize, wrap and do the initial overall setup? It seems like this is a decent sized hangup for some people. Just to make sure we are all on the same page of how to do it right, and how to break it in and what not?

Thank you Dan!

I'll wait for the video.

However, if it makes it easier for you, can you fileshare the video like the instructions.

holy jebuss, okay 3 times burning myself with soldering iron is the magic number to call it quits for the night. I need me some alcohol in ma liver, the positive post is a damn kicker. between trying to make it so there's enough insulation so it doesnt short, getting the post in the pen tube without bending it - learning though, definitely learning. Getting better with soldering iron / dremel. What I'm doing is pulling out the positive post of the connector and resoldering the wire instead of going through the trouble of doing the connector part over again. Helps to have a couple of the same atty or carto in case the insulator in it goes bad from going in and out of it. Tomorrow I'll get it, I can feel it!
