Well, I'm giving up on the nails for a while. I can't get them to fit in the tube wi the wire and solder. Wasn't crazy about doing it that way to begin with...but since I'm not that great at modding, I figured I would try. I have been trying for a while now, and can't make it work so I give.

Back to the drawing board.....see if I can find a better way. Going to look for some 1/8th od threaded insulators and try threaded rod.....

What gauge wire are you using? You need 22 gauge or smaller... If you can't get it, you CAN just jam the stripped part down inside the clear tube with (on the outside of) the carto tube. Super glue the carto tube in, don't put any glue in that wire area....

Thanks for the tip mj, but I am doing away with that whole set up. I tried one more time and got it in, but the spring compressed too much....and now to add insult to injury, the wire broke leaving the nail and spring stuck. I have been trying to to get it out, but all I have accomplished so far is pulling solder on to the spring, making it useless.

I hate to say it....cause I love all of the genisis attys I have built, but I don't think this one is for me.....

That looks great. You are getting far too good at turning metal, lol :)

Well 3 pieces turned and one to go. Still need to drill the air channels and tap and die the 3/4 32 tpi when the tap and dies come in.

Can't you thread that with your lathe?

Yes, I will do the rough threads with it and use a tap and die to finish it. Almost got the last piece done, the old craftsman motor is over heated so I will let her rest tonight and make the final drill hole tomorrow.

That looks really good, especially for a first run prototype :)

Thanks!
I am packing it in tonight.

Guess I was just looking at it all wrong....trying to do exactly what was shown instead of going for the same end result. I didn't have all the same tools....so I just changed the technique....and got the the results I needed. So the posts are in...finishing the rest of the build....

You know, you raise a good point. I found that getting things positioned properly for ME to work comfortably on those posts was important as well. Send me a PM after you get through one, I have some extra parts I can share with you for building out the rest of your many scubagens....

I was having problems getting the bend in my rolled wicks...always having it kink. My wife is a seamstress and told me I had to cut the screen on the bias (45 degrees from the grain). Did that and never get any kinks in my mesh now. I can bend it in any way I want and never kinks. I think it may wick a little better too or that may just be that I had kinks before??

Got it all together, put my first wick in....and realized I had cut it too short. Haven't had much time to mess with it....found out we had a death in the family this morning so I have been preparing to leave in the morning for the funeral. Need this together for the six hour ride. Gonna go make a new wick, then fill it back up. Should be good to go. All of the connections test out good.
