Design your own case from scratch, and then it is your design. Fact is, you made a basic battery pack mod in a pre-existing flashlight housing. That is in itself a knock off of pre-existing mods. Its cool that you had the gumption to market it, however after reviewing all of the facts and dates of pre existing battery mods your design does not warrant any kind of special treatment. I think it would be in your best interest to get creative perhaps and design your own case instead of using a pre existing flashlight case. Thats just ghetto and in poor taste to treat other people badly for stealing an idea that you yourself got from another source.

I haven't been around as long as some others, but apparently I've been around longer than you, and a quick search yields this thread, where, curiously, no one mentions a pre-existing mod to the Screwdriver:

Home-made battery

I may end up getting attacked by someone for this...but...

Isn't this exact situation what any designer/inventor of a truly great product eventually HAS to deal with? I mean, there was never just one television, or telephone, or car. There was competition. Someone took the original great idea and slightly changed it to suite some of the consumers' requests, and made money off it. Maybe I'm off base here...but there is no reason that the designs that are breaking huge ground in this market will be any more resistant to the competition of capitalism than what every other market already has to deal with just to stay in business. My question is...why doesn't Trog just make a true SD with the button on the side? Obviously a lot of people want one...people will continue to stay with Trog if they can continue to get what they want from him.

hi mate,

they are very valid points to which i would agree. but from Troggs point of view i can understand him getting mad at a website that has made a very similar product and is calling it a "screwdriver". if they had called it by a different name then id guess Trogg would not have been as ...... off about it.

for example, would sony be happy if packard bell announced a new laptop called a "vaio" or would they be suing their ...!? lol

cheers,

scott

Hey trog, how many SD's would you estimate that you have made and sold?(If you can or will share)

about a thousand so far.. purely limitted by the fact we dont advertise them and havnt tried to sell more than we can make.. we do intended to do it for real from now on tho... we are simply going with the flow..

the 36 different country factor is a puzzle as to how folks who dont even speak the same language as us end up deciding to buy one or even get to hear about it in the first place..

we must have got something right.. we are not that worried about losing customers mainly cos we dont try an maximize em in the first place.. its just gets a bit annoying when folks take the piss..

and even more annoying when this place lets em take the piss..

This makes sense and I hadn't thought of it like that...however, is the name Screwdriver patented? I'm not by any means defending this guy using the name when it wasn't a real Screwdriver...I'm just playing devil's advocate here...

how many dse901s do we see listed for sale that are the generic/not true version? How many people complain about that? Additionally, how many times do we call a tissue "kleenex" even if the tissue is not produced by that company? Same thing for Q-tips. Sometimes when a product succeeds well enough, it becomes the "household name" for itself and others like it.

I'm really kindda surprised that we haven't seen more of this considering how successful Trog's SD is and how common it is to hear the name around here.

A closer analogy would be the 510. Janty calls it a Dura-C (no one else does), Totally Wicked calls it a Titan(no one else does), ABC supplier(cant remember who) calls it a Yeti....etc, etc.....

Yes, Dietsmokes sells the Dura-C, but they say it is a Janty Dura, giving credit where it is due.............

If the guy want to sell a unit that looks like a Screwdriver, fine............just don't trade on the Screwdriver name that trog has worked hard establishing a reputation for.........

Yes there may one out of thousand who prefer a smaller device, or a button on the side, but that's it. The SD is a TANK, great vapor, stronger than a Mack truck, and the longest lasting battery I have seen. Oh yea, the button, has yours broken ?, Don't think so, you can always pick up a double package of buttons at any Radio Shack store, or send it back to Trog. Now what about the buttons on the other guys, well the JS had .............. the new V2, let's see what happens. Sure th SD can go off in your pocket, but if you turn the atomizer a little to your left before putting it in your pocket, no contact, just turn to the right when ready to use. And also the SD you can order with either 901 or 801 atomizer now.

Biased much?

I prefer both a smaller device (510) and a button the side.
I guess I am two of the one in a thousand people.

So I guess that means the next thousand can have no one in their group.

Excellent point, and you could expand on it from there.
"PEN" style, obviously because that's what it looks like.
I don't remember Bic or Papermate throwing any tantrums or filing any lawsuits. :p
C'mon now... It's called what it is because that's what it looks like.

Maybe the makers of this "copycat" device should adopt the name "style" and everybody will be happy? :)

Different manufacturers building on each new generation of products.

I could care less about what it's called... I suppose my toolbox is in breach of international law now since I have battery operated screwdrivers in it. Ooops...

We, the consumers, win when products are improved upon and free competition is allowed to determine the marketplace.

But let's not kid ourselves here... glueing/soldering/modding a whole bunch of existing products together and expecting exclusive rights to the market is not realistic.

Likewise... painting a forum member who asks an innocent question as a spammer doesn't help your business either... especially when your replies are (admitted) spam.

Good luck trademarking the name "screwdriver"... My bartender must be shaking in his shoes.

You were talking about people who smoke like you, not like me.
One size does not fit all, not even close.
My comment was that the SD received 99.9% great reviews, and the 99% of the people who bought one, are very happy with it, such as my self. The 1 % or so who are not happy, are the ones who realized it was to big for them, or they would like a button on the side, and those people knew before buying, the size, and where the button was located. Now do you understand what I am saying, or is it just one of those days for you!

Now I understand what you are saying.

I just don't like people who assume that everyone has the same needs as them.
My mistake if that is not what you were doing.

Your absolutely correct, different strokes, for different folks, that's why I have a few different devices, for different events, or occasions. I own a SD, JS, e-puffer Magnum, and a 510

Impressive numbers... 99.9% + 1% (or so?)
I think I get your point though. You shouldn't try something unless you know your going to like it?

Is this data from the "originators" forum where I hear 100% of all unfavorable comments are deleted?

Any data or poll results on how many "prospective customers" are lost each day due to poor/abusive customer relations, fanboy pile ons or spamming/bullying/abrasive attitude by the manufacturer? 8-o

I took a look at the "bunny land" thread over there while this site was down last week. I encourage everyone to do so... very interesting read and helps identify a lot of the "players". :) If I hated this place as much as he obviously does... I'd keep out.

You'd think for all the slack he's given in this forum he'd be a little more appreciative.

You have to read a little better sugar plum,
(99.9% REVIEWS)
( 1% who bought, disliked for some reason)
Two different subjects here.
I love all my e-cig devices, would not give them up, or stop using them, and I only buy from suppliers that have a satisfaction guarantee, with being returnable, and refundable, minus the shipping costs.

I've got two Screwdrivers. I love them. I wouldn't trade them for anything. I also have an AdapteR by Thad and I love that, it's just as good as the Screwdriver but not as streamlined. I have a prodigy coming and will be getting the GG Transformer when it's available.

That being said, if you want to go over to the other forum and look under the thread "I did it my way", you can see where Trog chewed me out big time and wasn't at all nice, kind or considerate because I said I had a sore throat from the filler in the carts and was vaping off the atomizer and it was working great for me. Trog doesn't want anyone on "his" forum to give advice that he doesn't think is good advice.

Trog was incredibly upset with me. He did apologize later but said I was being used as an example of how he will NOT allow his forum to be used by "newbies who think they can pop in here and chuck their opinion stuff about..it's not gonna happen" (end of quote of just part of what he said).

Trog runs a tight ship over there. He's VERY protective of his device and invention. I understand that.

I guess what I'm saying is, I've been on the receiving end, big time, of Trog's anger when he thinks someone is stepping on his toes when it comes to the Screwdriver. Did I like it? NOPE. Could I understand it? YUP. Trog is who he is and it's each individual's decision to purchase from him.

Do I like him? Sometimes, sometimes not. Do I like his Screwdriver enough to buy it again in spite of his personality? You bet ya. It's that good.
