So I've been looking around a bit for them, and so far the few domestic suppliers ive spoken to have mentioned that their manuals are NOT sealed :( being a newbie, I am prone to drowning attys, and would very muh like to save my money by not going thru batteries like my 510 goes thru juice. I've seen some of the pts from pure smoker, and would love to find out if they work for the 801, and if so, are there batts out there of the same quality?? Thanks!!!
P.S. My 510 is working out much better now that I have recessed the filler a but further down in the cart.

Yes sealing is obviously better. But if you do have ones of the old design I've found regular cleaning will prevent a quick death. Just use a rolled up paper or tissue and dip it into the batt/passthrough hole.

I will be finding out soon if the new generation of 801 manual batts are sealed. I know that a few were already manufactured but production was stopped for some sort of design improvement. Supposedly, it was because some sellers wanted the batteries/pts sealed.
so no sealed manual 801 batts or pts yet?

puresmoker's prodigy is meant to be used with 801 atomizers, and it is sealed. It is also higher voltage (~5V) device, which is great for the throat hit, vapor and overall near-smoking experience. However apart from being a hummer of the ecig world when it comes to the juice consumption (5ml per day is not out of the ordinary), it might destroy your experience with regular voltage (3.2- 3.7V) stuff.
As a side note, he might be able to sell you the version with 18650 batteries and without the resistor which gives you standard 3.7V. That way you get the benefit of sealed while also using semi-standard battery that can be purchased at regular camera / electronics store. I have both battery sets (with 901 adapter though) but only use 18650, and it is my main at-home e-cig.

Why would it destroy my experience? Is it that much better? what's the difference? Obviously I am brand new to this whole thing and really don't understand the difference between voltages...

I guess everything is personal, but people who switch to higher voltage usually don't go back. I tried it for a couple of days (just a few puffs though), and the TH is great, even with the lower nic content (11mg), very strong but smooth at the same time.

That sounds awesome. I think I would probably wait for my current 801 and 510 batts to die before considering a mod. in the mean time I'd like to learn more about the current mods in the market. So far I have heard a lot about the Prodigy and GG, less about the JS, and was wondering what people would suggest with both/either 510 or 801 batts... I guess 6 volts is the way to go?

Steve @puresmoker did some testing and decided that 5V is the sweet spot for his prodigy with 801 atomizers. It is possible to do 6V or more on prodigy as well, if you remove the resistor (he might offer extra switches without it). I think Walrus tried close to 8V, but it was too hot.
GG works at 6V, SD is standard 3.7, as is JS (I think). You can also get 5V on some pass-throughs that have no battery in line (USB operates on 5V).

so gg or prod? and does the prod have a 510 adapter?

I only have prodigy, and as I said, I am not using it in high voltage mode, so it would be unfair for me to judge. That being said, I am very satisfied with prodigy and Steve's customer service is exceptional.

As for the 510 adapter, check the puresmoker forum, I think it is due RSN.

I have the Prodigy with both 801 and 901 adapters and love it. It's a little bigger than a Mini-Maglite flashlight, both in diameter and length (with atomizer attached). One advantage of the 5V system is that I have several atomizers that just got too "wimpy" with regular 3.7V batteries but they produce tons of vapor with the Prodigy. I still use regular batteries when I'm out and about. With a good atomizer they are still quite satisfying, so I can't say the 5V system has "spoiled" me. Not yet, anyway.:)

I also have two Puresmoker passthroughs and they are, shall we say, monuments to over-engineering.:D Don't get me wrong, I love these PT's, but they are MUCH bigger than the Chinese ones. You won't be able to coil it up and put it in your pocket (unless you have a very large pocket!), but after all PT's aren't supposed to be portable. The Puresmoker PT has a manual switch and runs 5V direct from the USB port with no inline battery or voltage-dropping circuitry. The heavy cord (think TV or CB cable) provides the full 5V from USB with little or no voltage drop so they perform noticably better than the dinky little Chinese versions. They cost more, but like the Prodigy, they have interchangeable adapters for different atomizers. They appear to be built to last forever.

Puresmoker currently has 801 and 901 adapters available for both the Prodigy and the passthroughs. You can buy one Prodigy or PT and add different adapters for versitility. The adapters are completely sealed so no juice will get into the switch or battery compartment. Adapters for the 510, M401/2/3, and RN4081 are planned for the near future but I don't believe they are available at the moment. I believe you can pre-order them, though.
