Don, Deetz, and 5cardstud, I really appreciate that you took the time to respond. Don, I've been using all your links and looking very closely at each mod. I even made a spreadsheet to compare. For many of the devices, I'd need to get different batteries (the protege, Precious M, provape-1 and ICON) and are 3.7 devices, correct? Well, probably 4.2 like my chuck, so while smaller and pretty, don't have the options that the Buzz

It's a little more expensive but sometimes you get what you pay for. This thing will last forever, extremely versatile and it outperforms other mods with the same batteries. What you spend in initial investment, I believe you save in the long run. To each their own, I just know that I am so happy I decided to splurge and get one. I would have saved a lot of money if I bought this a long time ago! Anyway, good luck with your search!

Buzzkill and Israfil, Thanks, that does help. I didn't know whether the HV was for over 3.7 ish or what. When I had 2 stacked in my chuck, I fried two 510 atties straight away. The bag they came in says 3.0 volts. On the side, it says LifePo4 500 mah. Bad atties? Fluke? I don't know. I always thought it was because I should have used a HV atty.

Deetz, what you said is probably true. I may wait to decide till I have enough money to comfortable purchase the GGTS. That gives me time to think about what I'm really looking for anyway.

Coralie as a rule of thumb - the lower the resistance of the atomizer the lower the voltage they want to be run at ( a typical 510 is about 2.3 ohms )
AND the higher the voltage the higher the resistance you want to run at ( I.E. HV atomizers are higher resistance )

It was not a fluke that the atty blew , you applied 6+ volts to a fairly low res. atty . it happens all the time ( just ask around ! )

On Any fixed voltage device you will need to match your atomizer resistance to the voltage ,

On the inverse, with a variable device you match your voltage to the resistance .

FYI , I hope this helps and does not just make it more confusing ?????? :D

I'm also looking for that sweet spot and am taking my time deciding. I have the same batteries as you. I've used a box mod in the past with a 14500 battery, but it didn't have the performance that an 18650 or cr123a does.

DonDaBoomVape i didn't know puresmoker had a new model called the Icon. Thx for that reference. It's pretty, but it says it doesn't fit protected batteries. ?? PureSmoker.com - USA Electronic Cigarettes & USA Made eLiquid!!!

it recommends tenergy or imr batteries. are those protected or are those those life pos that have different (questionable) protection?

I think i'm going to get a buzz when they redesign it a bit with further improvements. I'm waiting to hear from an electronics friend to see if it's what i really need first.

I'd like to see more mods available with variable voltage. the set 5v, 6v, and 3.7v devices have kind of been done to death and it gets ridiculous... for me anyway lol.

I ordered a Riva kit from Nhaler for my husband for father's day and picked up an extra battery and cone from Tasty Vapor for me to try. Great prices on all of it. I'm gonna save the rest of my money while I keep watching reviews before I decide what to try.

He is liking the Riva, and the RY4 juice from Nhaler. I think the next thing I want to order is LR and HV atties to maximize the Riva/eGo stuff and to bump my Chuck up to 6v without frying atties.

Thanks everyone for all your input, I've used everything that's been said to inform my decision, as well as to plan for the next member of my vape-fam-damily. I will be revisiting the previous posts in this thread when I have more $$.

One thing to consider doing the Chuck @ 6v, give Nhaler's 510 Mega Cartomizers a try. (don't use them at 3.7, you won't like it very much) but they are fantastic for me at 6v on my Chucks, no frying problems here at all either, with an added convenience bonus if you don't mind cartomizer use.

I've tried regular cartomizers from Nhaler before and I didn't like the prefilled juice. I'm looking at the website right now and can't find an option to order them blank/empty. If they came filled with Drew's juices, that would be great, but I don't think the ones I ordered before did because the flavor was really weak.

Oops. Found them. http://shop.nhaler.com/Blank-510-Mega-Cartomizers-blank510megacart.htm
